Hi all
As many of you are aware, Shaun and myself were both part of the 'current' board as well as TU Fans Ltd. With TUFC going through a difficult stage in its history there have been many rumours. We however never had the opportunity to tell our side of the story after leaving the consortium but do not feel this statement/forum is the best place to discuss why we decided it was best for us both to step down from being directors.
Nevertheless the rumours are rife with the recent goings on, at and surrounding TUFC. We have felt for sometime that we, MR AND MRS ROBERTS, should release a statement to ensure that rumours are put to bed and after being contacted by the press as well as a few of you (fans to fans), today we talk to you direct.
For Shaun and I one of the most important issues that seemed to have been forgotten is that we, like many of you, are first and foremost FANS! We were sponsors and have supported TUFC for many years and began this journey as directors to SAVE OUR CLUB. It wasn't for money, it wasn't to boost our egos, it was pure and simple to help save our club. This was a dream job for Shaun from a young age and one he never felt he would ever realise. Yes he is born and bred in PLYMOUTH but has always been TUFC crazy following the gulls from as early as he can remember.
More recently we became part of TU Fans Ltd, which yes did start a number of rumours off once again. However we felt that we still had the passion to save our club, coupled with our growth of knowledge and understanding of how a football club should/could be run with connections being made not only from our own business' but also within the wider public. During this part of our journey we (TU FANS LTD) have continued to try and raise funds for the purpose of TUFC survival and have had many discussions with the BoD to try and support a successful takeover throughout 2016. In addition to this we have unfortunately been told "no" due to the MoU in place whilst GI carried out their due diligence. This decision to dismiss all other interested parties has now led the BoD to their current situation with the season only a few days away and no new buyers. As I am sure you will all agree there have been some crazy decisions over the past few months including the dismissal of the CEO Mr Stephen Breed which my husband and I see as suicide! BUT after all of this is said and done it remains we wish the club all the best in finding new owners and success in the future.
Most recently issues surrounding TU Fans Ltd have come to light that my husband and I strongly disagree with. We feel that the relationships within TU Fans Ltd could have damaged the successful nature of TUFC that we were so keen to develop and nurture. Therefore we have decided to severe our links with TU Fans Ltd as from the 10th July 2016. Any comments after this are therefore posted by the remaining directors of TU Fans Ltd.
We would like to end this statement by thanking you for reading this and ask you to respect our journey as true Torquay United fans. Again we would like to reiterate that we wish TUFC and every yellow army fan all the best in the future.
Many thanks
Keira and Shaun Roberts
