In a conversation earlier, I couldn't remember the life of me who Beds had signed for in the summer. I knew it was the team that ground-shares with AFC Wimbledon but I just couldn't dig deep enough in my mind to find the name...
Anyway, a quick Google search led me to the Kingstonian Wikipedia page. In the squad list there's an asterisk next to Beds' name and then underneath says:
* Tony Bedeau is currently not playing for Kingstonian due to him being based in Torquay.
I then clicked on his page to see this:
"Tony Bedeau's time at Kingstonian has recently been put on hold as he had to return back to the Torquay area after only playing the first 4 games of the season & scoring 1 goal."
What's the story with this?

The last I heard was that Beds was unable to commit fully to Kingstonian's training schedule as he needed to be in Torbay to over see the selling of his property down there. This was also whilst he was awaiting his Criminal Record check which would enable him to begin work with Fulham FCs Football In The Community programme......................from my own experience this process can take up to three months at present. I no longer hold his up to date number, but I know someone who does and I'll try to get an update.

It's a shame that Tony Bedeau's career never fully delivered on the promise it showed when he really started to break through in 98/99 and beyond.
Perhaps the £100k move to Rochdale that he rejected (and then Rochdale signed Paul Connor? from Stoke) would have been good for him. Steve Parkin (manager of Rochdale at the time) took a risk-free chance on signing him on loan when he was at Barnsley but by this time Tony was never quite the same player.
I suppose it is easy to make comparisons with a player who completed 10 years at the club around the same time in Kevin Hill. When things weren't going for Hilly, he would dig-in and his work-rate would carry him through, whereas Tony was more of a "confidence player" and boy did it show when he was low on morale, although I often felt that the Pop Side getting on his back was a real hindrance at times.
Some of his challenges made me wince, but on his day he could really make a difference and scored some vital goals. It must have been a huge disappointment when the "big move" never materialised and a couple of injuries hampered his progress. Also the tragic death of his sister seemed to coincide with his loss of form - so I try and remind myself that there is often things in the personal life that affects a player that the average supporter will not know anything about. I was disappointed for him that his spell at Walsall didn't really work-out - I was hoping that a new club would see him realise a bit more of his potential. His final season back at the club wasn't really one to remember. His 10 years at the club seemed to fly-by as a supporter. My favorite Tony Bedeau moment was his goal at Exeter in the season they got relegated.
Still, I'm glad that a player who was with the club for so long seems to have work with a Football in the Community scheme and some potential pin money with Kingstonian.
As DGEP says, his haircut is shocking!
