Another great programme! The No 6 in the Exeter City side is Scottish International Harry Haddock. He was attached to Exeter City while serving in the Royal Air Force. He went on to play for Clyde for 13 seasons including two Scottish Cup wins. He was widely recognised as a sporting player who was never sent off and it is thought never booked. In a Scotland shirt and as left back in the England v Scotland game in 1955 he suffered at the hands (or should that be the feet?) of Sir Stanley Matthews playing as outside right. Despite the score, Harry never resorted to the usual rough house tactics to try and stop the great man. After that match Harry and Sir Stan struck up a long-lasting friendship. |

The use of the phrase 'crafty schemer' is almost Thomasesque. Although I have not seen mention of a scheme in Hearld reports for a while.
