Worth watching the whole thing. The Darlo game has a nice interview with a very young looking Cyril Knowles and also includes efforts from Carl Airey and Steve Tupling - how many remember him?
The Torquay game was 9 March 1985 - Andy O'Dell scoring on his debut.

It was interesting to see footage of the match played at Feethams, the former home of Darlington.
I went there in 1992 and appreciated that it was conveniently situated close to the town centre and only a short walk from the railway station. The main stand was in a poor condition and in 1997 it was demolished and rebuilt as an all seater stand, costing £3 million. The cost had a negative effect on the club and George Reynolds came in to stabilise the club.
The new stand was more than adequate for a club of Darlington’s status, and with the capital at his disposal, Reynolds could easily have covered the shortfall in the overall cost. Instead, he became chairman in 1999 and spent £18-£20 million on a brand new stadium on the outskirts of the town. We all know what happened after that.
Hartlepool’s ground at Victoria Park looked in poor shape in 1985, but was greatly improved in the mid 1990’s, with the construction of two new stands, one of which was named the Cyril Knowles stand. In the early to mid 2000’s, Hartlepool enjoyed relative success in tiers 3 and 4 of the football league, during which time they were owned by IOR Ltd (Increased Oil Recovery), an Aberdeen based oil company.
In 1985, Plainmoor was in a run down state, as shown in the 1980 YouTube clip , but all four sides of the ground were transformed during the period from 1992 to 2012, including the generous private donation towards the cost of Bristow's Bench.
All three clubs of similar status have spent considerable sums improving their stadiums, but at what cost? Two clubs have been relegated from the football league and face possible extinction, while the third club only escaped relegation last season with a late recovery and, according to The Northern Echo, is effectively subsidised by their owners, Increased Oil Recovery, by about £1 million a year.

It is a good point but I don't equate Bristow's Bench with our decline although it may have hastened matters with less money for Thea to pump into the club. I think the old stand was falling apart and recall its capacity having been severely reduced prior to its demolition so it's replacement was one of necessity as opposed to a vanity type improvement. Of the cost we had a £750000 Grant plus some funding from Westlands on top of the Bristow donation.
