Firstly many thanks for all you great contributions to the forum this week, without you all there would be no forum.
A big thank you to old toothache, who once again this week has added so many quality posts to the forum.
This weeks winner wins the title for his second time, mind you the first time he won it, he upset young chips, who made a post in reply that won the title for herself, the following week.
I have had the pleasure to talk many times with the winner at Plainmoor and he has two lovely daughters that would make any dad proud. Big chips is a bit headstrong and leaves everything to the last minute, but she will go far.
The Winner is
tufc01 a big well done
One of his posts this week.
Dave R,
Can I use this thread to thank you for setting up this forum.
I have never been one for forums, time restraints and a low boredom threshold span means that I could never be asked to read through pages & pages of waffle and conjecture.
I did start to read the BBC 606 non league forum, however that became tedious as people were just using it as a tool to deride other teams supporters, just why some Exeter supporters would take the time to bother to read and make snide remarks on Torquay threads is beyond me. Then last season you had Stevenage fans believing they had a divine right to promotion, this season Mansfield started along the same lines, although for some reason they have gone quiet now.
I cant remember why i joined this forum, but I am glad that i did. I like the quality of the posts, most make for an enjoyable read. I go for Quality over quantity any day. I also enjoy the banter that i have seen so far, yes people are opinionated, some more so than others, but better to express an opinion and let others disagree than to not express an opinion at all.
I also like the fact that it is self governed and this seems to have worked, yes there has been the odd comment that could be seen to or felt by the receiver to have been a bit personal, but that has been very isolated. With the exception of one post, that I actually did see and fully agree that it had to be removed, nothing or no-one appears to have been banned, yellow carded, warned or whatever other terms are used to stop people expressing their opinions.
Actually i had better get onto the point i originally came on here to write about.
Following on from the story about 'The Statement' and the comments made, i felt that as i hadn't seen it i would need to see what all the fuss was about. I also, already knew the story about why the sponsor had pulled out so i wanted to know if anything more had happened. As no-one had copied the statement over or put up a link i had to go find it. I wasn't sure what i was expecting but was quite shocked surprised to see what i found. I have to say that i only read this thread and no others, so i might not have got a true representation of the forum as a whole and i am SURE someone will tell me whether i am right or wrong.
The thing that surprised me is how rude the staff are on there.
"are you really that silly" followed by "so you are that silly then". Then another manager (i now know why the term 'kid' was banded around before (lol)**) "has the penny dropped yet". Then later, rather inexplicably, someone made a point that one of the 'managers' didn't like (mainly because it disagreed with his own view), so the others ganged up on him. hardly a practice for allowing free speech.
I haven't commented before on any of the issues about colours etc, because i hadn't been on there to have a look, but now that i have i would say this; Dave, don't worry about them copying the colors. Whilst i realise that for you its a personal thing, however if i was you I'd take it as just about the biggest compliment going.
It is blatantly obvious that the two forums can live side by side. They are as different as chalk and cheese and no matter what either of the sites looks like it (please don't change these colours Dave, most of us take a while to be accustomed to things, change isn't good, besides don't allow yourself to be dragged into thinking that you should)
I know you have put a MASSIVE amount of time and effort into making this forum successful, but it isn't just the forum manager that makes a forum as good as this, its also those that contribute and for that reason this site tops all others and whilst a massive thanks must go to Dave, it is the members on here who make it what it is, a very enjoyable and informing forum. (i could add educational to that as well now)
Thats me finished on my soap box, boy its easy to get carried away when you start isn't it???
Onto todays game. Heart says 2-0, head says 0-0 (head gets the bookies money at 5/1).
Also whilst i am ranting, if you think that the oxford situation wont happen again today, you had better pray that Cambridge don't bring the same morons who they brought last year, who IMO were the most yobish, poorly behaved fans I have seen at Plainmoor in many a year. I haven't seen so much aggression in people eyes EVER.
** Sorry couldn't resist the text speak, it seemed appropriate to use it then and in that context.
