I have been really impressed with how the Wales team have gone about their Euro campaign and after winning last night against Belgium they are starting to look very likely to get to the finals in what is an expanded format of 24 teams just over the channel. I was listening to parts of the game last night and was delighted to hear the crowd get behind their team creating a cracking atmosphere at the game.
Good luck to our Welsh friends!

Wales did not quite qualify today in a 0-0 draw but they are all but there! 5 points clear with 2 games to play. If it doesn't happen in the next round then on the final day they have a home tie against Andorra while Israel are away to Belgium!!!

I find it quite farcical that Wales are higher than England in the FIFA standings. We are the only team in the Euro qualifiers not to have dropped a point. FIFA also uses other data such as the past 3 World Cup Finals' performances by federation. In my opinion the ratings should only represent competitive international matches since and including the last WC, with a standard 3W/1D points system. Friendlies should be treated for what they are; totally meaningless. Currently FIFA uses weightings and factors, not dissimilar to the SWAG method. Here's a link to the FIFA g̶o̶b̶b̶e̶l̶d̶y̶g̶o̶o̶k̶ official rankings' process: resources.fifa.com/mm/document/fifafacts/r%26a-wr/52/00/97/fs-590_10e_wrpoints_english.pdf

Lies and Damn statistics eh? Probably worth mentioning the Northern Irish who also had to chance to qualify with a win but could only manage a draw. I remember them in their last major tournament during the '86 Mexico world cup and with a significantly smaller population than Wales are certainly punching above their weight! Would be great if these two could join England in the finals...
