linkAs can be seen from the link, this starts on Saturday 6th June for the duration of a month. Anybody interested? I saw my first international game at the Millennium Stadium during the Olympics a few years ago and very watchable it was too!

Top quality game last night Sweden v Nigeria ended 3-3 . Some talent (er footballing) in that side! England looked pretty average - nothing new there.

A well deserved 2-1 victory with lots of pressure resulting in two late goals before Mexico got an injury time consolation.

As the former manager of a leading English team in the 1970s, I am very pleased that the women's game has finally achieved due recognition. There are some very skillful players in the world game now, although skill does not always prevail against physical brutality, viz. Switzerland v Cameroon this evening.
Nevertheless, there are a few things I have seen during this competition which I find rather distasteful and which seem to have been copied by coaches from the men's game:
1. Almost every corner kick has been taken with the ball outside the quadrant;
2. Many corner kicks have been taken with a block of four or five players standing in front of the goalkeeper and trying to block her from getting to the ball;
3. There have been many instances when a player has pretended to be injured in order to waste time, but has then sprinted back on to the field as soon as she has been led off for treatment.
The women's game has habitually progressed without the need for gamesmanship, but it seems that male coaches have now taken over and those days of innocence are sadly no more. Perhaps the fact that even a moderate player like Steph Houghton reportedly earns £65,000 a year goes a long way to explaining this change in tactical behaviour ?

Yes, I saw that match last night! Thought it was a game of two halves - Switzerland looked good and deserved their lead, playing as a unit with some good skill. Second half, they went to pieces as they could not live with the power and pace of Cameroon who could have got a hatful of goals.
The points you raised were quite noticeable and thought the same myself.
England are looking to qualify tonight in what is a very open group!

2-0 up at half time, great chance of qualification now! Second half a bit backs to the wall and conceded a goal during last minute of injury time but now play Norway in the knockout stage on Monday.

Poor management really. He should tell them to remain composed and simply keep possession for a while, not just keep lumping the ball forward and leaving the midfield in no (wo)man's land.

Another 2-1 win again against a well fancied Norway team who dominated the first half and only some good goal keeping from Karen Bardsley ensured it was still scoreless in the first half. England did play better in the second half but still went behind from a headed corner before equalising in the same way a few minutes later. The winner 15 minutes from time was pure dynamite and possibly one of the best goals of the tournament so far....

Matilda's beat Brazil and are looking the dominant team. Yet another Aussie team punching well above their wait.

The format of this competition is seriously flawed.
The two best teams in the world both won their groups but have to play each other in the quarter finals !

Does not seem quite right but not sure if the men's world cup seeded in some way either? Looks like a late one tonight and looking forward to watching it - details in link below, worth clicking even if just to see the Lucy Bronze winning goal! link
