This is not about how forum members behave, it is about the way the forum behaves when you press 'Next>>' in a thread. On my PC when the next page displays it is still at the bottom of the page so I have to scroll all the way up to the top in order to be able to continue reading posts in their chronological order. It does this in all threads on TFF.
Does this happen to anyone else or is it just a TFF quirk that I can alter in 'settings' or something?

Whether I press 'Next' or the next page number, it's always takes me to the top of the following page. Being sent to the bottom of the next page and then having to scroll up to the top to keep reading in sequence must be a bind, but I'm not tech savvy enough to offer any suggestions as to why that happens with your PC, Florida.
Perhaps the NSA insert something into computers in the States to make them function differently .
If it was happening to others I'm sure there'd have been plenty of moans about it by now, so I'd assume it's specific to your computer.

Thank you for the suggestions, Joe. I also thought I may be the only 'sufferer' for the same reason. It doesn't actually send me up or down the next page, it just moves me on the next page at the same point as the previous.
NSA would sound feasible in this 'Land-of-the-fee, home-of-the-slave' USA, if they actually manufactured anything. We had new water meters fitted in our street yesterday, all proudly stamped 'Made in Israel'. Makes a change from China and Mexico, I suppose.
Anyway, I'll just have to soldier on with very onerous task of having to press the 'pg up' button when visiting TFF.

I have to scroll to the top to find the 'next' button or page number. It would be handy if it was at the bottom.

hector If only TFF had a member under the age of 35 he would easily explain this to us. I've a feeling that it depends on how clever the gizmo is that you're using to view the site that's the deciding factor. If I read TFF on my ancient tablet ( ipad 1 2010) then like you, I also have to scroll to the top of the page before a 'next' button becomes visible. If I'm using the laptop which I'm typing on now, the various page numbers and 'next' are all available to me straight away at the bottom, with no need to move back up to the top of the page.
I've decided that Florida's computer is a member of the 'teamsters' union; it's done it's part by taking him to a new page, and that's enough effort on it's part. If Florida wants the luxury of being at the top of the page as well, it makes him do the work himself .

On my 7-month old HP laptop the 'next' button and page numbers 'float' on a bar at the top. Have to say that on other Proboards' forums I do not have these issues. I suspect it is something in the code, which is peculiar to TFF. Still, it's not a showstopper.

I have discovered the answer, purely by accident. I previously had ad-blocker active on TFF so the forum did not need to jump to each new ad at the top of the next page. In my case, wherever I was, was where I was taken to on the next page. Now ad-blocker has been disabled for TFF, as soon as I change page, it positively zooms to the new advert at the top of the next page. Proof if you ever needed it that advertisers control the internet.

Proof if you ever needed it that advertisers control the internet. It's just part of the contracts made between advertisers and third party providers such as Pro Boards. Then the provider has a contract with its users, such as TUFF. It's annoying but advertising is the the price we pay for free websites. Pro Board sites do not work consistently across operating systems or browsers.

I remember when Freeserve or maybe Freenet came in, around the end of the 90's, offering free internet. Thinking about it, I think Freenet may have been the freebie when I was living in Germany. No matter, the point was that both these internet providers reckoned they would make their money from advertisers and a share of the phone line charges, because of course we were all on dial-up then. Broadband may have blown the free dial-uppers out of the water, and brought back internet charges but there's probably more advertisers than ever. I am on the verge of quitting Facebook 'cos there are so many 'shares', which are nothing more than ads dressed up as memes or personal thoughts, overwhelming my newsfeed. We watched an hour of US TV tonight, on DVR thankfully, and only 36 minutes was the actual programme. The rest were adverts. There's just no getting away from the little bar-stewards.

Yahoo had a dial up line over here. It was long distance but I had a plan...it put ads in a top frame. It was slow and useless. When CNN (Cable Network News) A and E, TBS et al started out there were NO ads. You paid extra for those channels. Now you still pay for them and they have ads. Scam! It was really easy to make money from ads online in the 90s. Companies paid up to 20 cents a click! It lasted about three years. To make money you need to sell where the people go. Facebook is easier than Twitter to engage potential clients. Of course, you could always use MySpace instead.
