The fact that Conservative ministers, ex-ministers and members are totally out of touch with ordinary people was surely best exemplified on tonight's BBC Question Time when Michael Heseltine stated that he had never heard of Ant and Dec. His world of entertainment probably embraces theatre, opera and ballet, in accordance with his shameless wealth. What on earth does he watch on television ? Perhaps he doesn't have one ?
If that statement was not so worrying about the current and possibly future nature of the government of this country, then it would be laughable.

I am nearly 20 years younger than Michael Heseltine and I would not watch Ant and Dec on television. The man is in his 80s for goodness sake. And educated. I would rather hear the truth from any politician than a fake " man of the people " persona. Fetching my hard hat to weather the coming storm. . .

I agree especially the bullshit from the likes of Gordon Brown and his love for The Arctic Monkeys

I consider myself reasonably well-read but during a conversation the other day the other person mentioned 'Muse' to which I just gave a blank look. There followed a sense of disbelief from others present that I had never heard of them. Having Googled them I can sort of see why, and not just because they come from Teignmouth, however in my defence I listen mainly to country music so why would I know Muse?
Successful politicians need a brilliant education over familiarity with some irrelevant popular 'celebrity', which is why most went to public schools and top notch universities, and that applies to politicians of all parties. Bet you can't name a Prime Minister that didn't go to public school. The answer is Ed Miliband but he then went on to Oxford, as did Cameron and Clegg.
You only have to look at Bliar and his spin doctors to see how short term populism just leads to long term economic disaster for the country. He might have tried to identify with Oasis and Blur to get voted into power. The result was that we are still trying to sort of 13 years of labour profligacy, led by man-of-the-people Blair. And then there was Iraq of course....

I listen mainly to country music Sorry to hear this sad news!! It's OK. I'm used to the ridicule, after 50 years of also admitting to supporting Torquay and the England Cricket Team!

The worst example is David Cameron claiming to be a fan of The Smiths. It's abhorrent!

Nothing wrong with Country music. Check out Keith Urban and Eric Church...really good singers and songwriting is second to none! Country my arse. Today's Country Music is nothing like the way most non-followers think it is. They tend to think about the sort of thing Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, and the like were putting out 40 years ago. Then it was known as Country and Western, of course. The 'and Western' part disappeared years ago. If you've ever been to a country artist's concert you will know why so many guys like country. Simply put, it is the girls. Not the ones on stage but the female fans. I may be 58 but I am still a red-blooded male who can appreciate a shapely 20-something in extremely tight short shorts or micro dress. And at country concerts there are thousands of them. It is no coincidence that there are so many guys lusting after them and hitting on them. Add in copious amounts of alcohol and great music, and you get a night to remember. Or not, depending on your alcohol intake. Every Country concert we have been to has been top quality. And the thing that separates Country artists from your mainstream pop artists is they sound as good live as they do on record. Country is a massively competitive genre so only the very best make it. I would also mention that Eric Church has become one of my favourite artists over the past few years. It is very impressive the way he has progressed since we first saw him as the opening act for Toby Keith 4 years ago.

Whilst I may recognise the names Ant and Dec, to be honest, I cant really describe what they are, what they do, why they have fame or which one is which?
FLA, once, when in a taxi into town in Norway from the airport hotel, we asked the driver if there was anywhere with live music. The answer back was "Ah, you want the Piano bar as they have both kinds of music". Rather confused, we asked which kinds they were. Country AND Western came the reply....
