There was a good 100 Gulls fans in that! They were expecting about 700.
Obviously we deserved to win and did a professional job but 5-0 was a bit harsh. 3-0 would have been fair as Rice had more saves to make then their keeper! Bishops put too many players forward and got caught on the break a lot of the time. We have certainly got to get someone challenging in midfield as they were constantly running at us. However we had no right back and Macdonald went off injured. saw him after and he is ok.
We played well at times and Young and Bowman far too strong for them and Rice had a good game too!

428 but no idea of the home/away breakdown. It's impossible to quantify because, quite correctly, there was no segregation nor separate turnstiles. I sat in the main stand where there were other Torquay supporters. I'd say we constituted around 20-25% of the attendance. The crowd yesterday compared to other sub-five hundred crowds during our previous time in the Conference: 476 at Droylsden in the league; 454 at St Albans and 421 at Forest Green in the Setanta Shield. Twenty or thirty years ago the visit of Torquay United in the FA Cup would have drawn a big crowd to Bishop's Stortford's old ground nearer the centre of town. It would have been an event; the local paper would have been full of it. And, to be fair, Stortford still managed to attract 2,500 for an FA Cup tie against Northampton last season. Albeit, I suspect, with a healthy number of away supporters. But the FA Trophy lacks the appeal of the past. Also, I presume, do Torquay United. Or, likewise, most of the ex-Football League clubs now playing in non-league. We lose our allure pretty quickly. Stortford's crowd was bigger in the previous round against Chelmsford City (a localish game of course). Mind you, it may be the case the home supporters yesterday were left far more impressed by Torquay United in action than they had ever been prior to the game. That's not a bad thought this morning. |

Nice to hear, no MacDonald and Downes next weekend would have been very awkward for what in essence is the start of the Christmas period! When was the last time we bagged 5??! Rochdale, a few years back. Shrewsbury, the season after Rochdale just to be accurate. A handful of 4s but no 5 since then. Lets put it into perspective though. BS are struggling against relegation at the bottom of Conf South. If we hadnt beaten them it would have been a pretty damning indictment and ranked alongside going out to Harrogate in the FAC. |

Aldershot also lost at home to Burgess hill Town - never heard of them! Burgess Hill are apparently unbeaten in the league: fifteen wins and five draws. That suggests there may be money. In a my own peculiar way I'd happily settle for an away tie at somewhere I've never been. Oddly that rules out clubs from the northern half of the country. The next round is national remember. That leaves me with Burgess Hill, Gosport, Braintree (not yet anyway), Concord, Didcot, Hemel Hempstead, and Wealdstone. Not that I'm being selfish. |

I cant go home or away on the next round but simply want it to be home. More money and less travelling.

Barton Downs Pah, that's no more Boris Johnson than it is Ulrika. Anyone taken in by the claim that's the rear view of the Mayor of London, would also be gullible enough to believe I received an email late on Friday night 
Just before kick off on Saturday, Radio Devon gave us a name check of the important figures who were attending the game, this included the names of some of the club directors, the proprietor of BTPIR etc. I can't believe they'd forget to mention such an instantly recognisable celeb as Boris. |

In fairness to Breedy he was sat right at the back, Merse just in front of him, Boris nearly pitch side and me blocking everybody's view. When play stopped for Angus's injury, I asked Boris if he'd seen you. There was the usual bluster but no firm denial. He muttered something about taking a wrong turning on his way to a meeting of the Cecil Rhodes Society. I think he'd been drinking. Breedy sounded in fine fettle. I'd maintain his dulcet tones are wasted on fuzzy old medium wave. His is a voice for DAB's sharper quality. That's the benefits of progress. Bring it on. |
