What a weekend it has been in the life of our football club Torquay United and the word united is maybe one we should all think about.
I do find the events this week and the statement made by SG all very sad and I question the real reasons behind such a statement and worry about the impact it may have on the club, we want to only succeed and go forward.
I also find it sad when I think back to when I talked with Sean, the day the shirt sponsor was to be announced, as you know Sean did an interview for the forum and he was so happy and pleased to be in a position to help the club he clearly loves so much.
To look now just six months on at what I can only describe as a mess, it saddens me even more. Both Sean and Lee are strong willed and minded men and were at one time good friends at the club, sadly a private arrangement between them has led to the major fall out we are all now aware about.
I have never spoken to Colin Lee, I have many times to Sean and I would say while I know he has history, a fact he has openly admitted to me, I have always found him pleasant to talk with.
Sean must be hurt and very unset that his dream to help the club he loves as ended in tears and I fully understand any anger he may be feeling and I know he would really only want the club to be successful.
I took the view three months ago, when I was made aware why Sean had ended his sponsorship deal, that based on what I was told, the board should be giving answers to why the sponsor had ended his sponsorship.
I also fully believed that it was not my place as a fan the same as everyone else on here, to be the person who should bring all the details out into the open, apart from the legal aspect of doing so, I would have only heard one side of the story.
I was later to be told some things from what I will call the other side, I have listened but who am I to make judgments and then take sides. This forum is independent of the club and anyone associated with it, I firmly believe its the only way it can and should be.
Sean was not banned from the ground, but it was felt that under the circumstances and the very strong feelings running between certain people at the club, that maybe it would be best if Sean just stood, say on the popside. I fully understand how Sean would have felt being told that, but I can also understand why it was put to Sean that the club felt it was for the best.
I truly hope that both Sean and Lee can find the proper way forward, to end this dispute and I hope that both will see that by not doing so, harm may be caused to the very thing that they both love so much. There has to be a third party somewhere, who can work with both Sean and Lee, with the only aim of sorting out the problems between them.
I would hope that Colin Lee could put aside his feelings for Sean and that Sean could do the same, there are so many real problems in this world today and finding a peaceful solution to this matter and one that satisfies both parties, must be the best way forward for them and our club.
