We have come through a very tough fortnight with away trips to Lincoln, Chester and Grimsby sandwiching just the one home game against Nuneaton. Winning all four games was impressive but we now welcome a team on an even better run with 5 wins on the trot and an unbeaten record to boot!
I think Woking are a bit of a surprise package being where they are although they did finish strongly in the latter stages of the previous season. Rendell, a striker we all know and love is their top scorer with him ably supported by Sole and Morgan with a further nine between them and in fact this trio have scored 16/18 goals for the club in their campaign so far.
Woking are a part time side and have had their resources stretched with various injuries, notably to their keeper Aaron Howe suffering a broken pelvis against Aldershot. However, Ross Worner has come in on an emergency loan from AFC Wimbledon and did well in the last match by all accounts! Like us, Woking have played teams mainly in the bottom half of the table with the only two higher ranked teams being Macclesfield 0-0 and Wrexham where they achieved their best result with a 1-2 away win!!!
Reading Hargreaves comments, it seems there was a bit of fatigue in the last performance after a tough run of games but Woking will have similar issues so no excuses. Bowman was substituted at half time so could possibly be a doubt? I think those on the sidelines recently, Harding, Briscoe and Cameron may be nearing fitness and would be useful if we have some more options particularly out on the wing as this is a position that very often needs a genuine substitute option.
It appears that there are a couple of mini leagues within the division and how we do against the better teams, particularly at home could well define our season!

Lots of games in a short space of time and some of the squad maybe not used to cramming in two matches a week could be our achilles heel in maintaining this wonderful run of wins. Still looking forward to this one and if both teams play to their potential this could be a very entertaining match. Hope the stay aways turn up and support this great start to the season.

Preview now on dot com - linkLooks like Bowman will be ok! If Cameron back then think Hargreaves will have his first choice XI with a few difficult decisions to make along the way! It will be an advantage over Woking who have a couple of players out including their captain. Cannot make this game tonight which is gutting but looking forward to reading a few match reports...

Dreamland. Dreamland. Dreamland. What a start to this season!
I'm going to the restaurant in my photo again tonight and the way I'm feeling, I don't care how much we spend!

Five consecutive wins 466 minutes without conceding a goal and second in the table just a point behind top spot. None of us could have imagined we would be in this position preseason and there is so much to enjoy about our play and performances. Tonight though was a completely different kettle of fish in terms of opposition quality. Woking are a pretty capable outfit and caused us problems particularly in a first that they just about edged. For long periods it was a scrappy affair with both sides canceling each other out and both sets of players working hard with Woking stroking the ball about with some fluency whilst UTD were looking for the killer ball a little to often and promptly relinquishing possession on to many occasions particularly in the early stages. Thankfully we held firm for half time and the second half was a different story entirely. Whilst nowhere near in top gear we began to dominate the game though rarely creating any clear cut chances. Woking were strong and disciplined at the back but the second period saw there level of performance just drop off whilst we raised our slightly and began to look the better side. Both so=ides have had a pretty gruelling few weeks and it was showing at times though the work ethic from this group of players is second none of any group I have watched in recent seasons. The togetherness, team spirit and will to win is a massive part of what is happening and was clearly on show when Luke Young struck his 90th minute screamer that moved in the air and deceived the keeper low to his left, when every single player pilled on top of Young in celebration in the center of the pitch. One goal was always going to win this match as defenses dominated but it was a goal worth waiting for and as always the 90th minute is always the best time to score. Woking will probably feel a little hard done by and perhaps the neutral would say a draw would have been a fairer result but when they were at their best in the first half they didn't score and that was basically what won us a match that could realistically have gone either way. Top marks for work rate and endevour tonight Ajala in particular summed up the overall team performance where not an awful lot went right at times vbut when he lost the ball his first instinct was to win it back which he did nine time out of ten and you cant fauklt that and boy did that lad work his nuts off for the team and he wasn't alone. A massive well done to all the players and staff and so lovely to hear the crowd really get behind the team tonight. Were in this together and feel we all have a big part to play when you see players blowing through hard work and effort near the end of a hard match and give them encouragement they instantly respond with even more lung bursting effort its a joy to see. Great effort.

I think you sum it up perfectly, Pete. A great game. One that will be remembered for a long time.

Great effort. Thanks, Pete, for again taking the time to give a match report so soon after the match. I am so encouraged by what you describe, which is so diametrically opposed to most of the reports on last season's performances. It almost gives me goose bumps to read how together this squad is. Chris Hargreaves is so deserving of so many plaudits; not just for the players he has brought to the club but the way he has got them to gel together. Every win, every clean sheet, and every goal, just builds more confidence, which then makes the team believe they are even more invincible. Of course we will lose some games this season but as was said in another post, hopefully at that stage the belief will be so strong that any loss will be treated as just a blip to be corrected in the next match. If this carries on, Joe is going to have to drop his current legends' thread and ML allegiance, and join the rest of us in drooling over Chris Hargreaves' football management skills. I remember when this sort of thing started happening for SAF. It took him a bit longer but we all know how that beginning turned out. It's been years since I have felt so positive about our club. Just fantastic stuff.
