The city of York doesn't quite come under the category of "bleak, freezing and incredibly dull" yet, if truth be told, this isn't the most interesting of football programmes. Neither club would have been happy with their start to the season although each would surely now be content to hold a similar place in the grand scheme of things. A poor beginning too to Blackburn Rovers' new life in the third tier.
Space in the programme for the fixtures of York's reserve and youth teams. The North Midlands League doesn't actually feature too many midland teams and seems to have been a reserve league for Yorkshire and surrounding counties. The Northern Intermediate League, an age group competition which featured in programmes for decade after decade, has the veneer of an altogether classier competition with the likes of Newcastle, Leeds and the Sheffield clubs.
What's the score at Rowntree? "Five goals" with the firm, founded on Quaker principles, based at The Cocoa Works.
And an air of sophistication, you sense anyway, at the Acropolis Steak House with its soft music and "delightful Scottish decor". I may seek it out later today.
