have never considered hawley as an out and out striker for us,but he has a great engine in him,a few of us have thought he would be great in midfield, was that his role today?his goal rate has been poor but nobody can say he is lazy, maybe in the autumn of his career midfield is his niche, well spotted hargreaves maybe

Rovers win in the last minute so same difference I would take those last minute goals for Newport and Rovers as opposed to neither happening. I could be wrong but I think us v Stanley for the last relegation slot is less unlikely than us v Rovers. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Rovers end up above Exeter City. That late goal might end up being seen as the one that dragged City into the relegation scrap rather than one that Rovers needed to stay up. "Same difference" as in we are still in the bottom two, but a totally different feel to the table - I'd say there are ten teams above us who are all catchable. If results had gone differently, we could very easily have been adrift with only one or two in our sites. A long way to go and, make no mistake, we are still in the thick of a relegation battle. I'd rather be in the thick of a relegation battle than gazing up at one.

Three strikers in the starting XI. It's going to need more than just a nice morale boost to get something from this with that sort of tactical philosophy. Crazy It's funny that when managers do the unexpected, some will jump to the conclusion that it is the manager who must be stupid and the fan knows better. Others may be puzzled but try to understand the reasoning behind the unexpected decision. What was the thinking behind that starting lineup and can someone who was at the game shed any further light on what roles the front three undertook? Was it a way to counter the 3-5-2? That formation is based on the back three being able to pick up the front two and still have a man spare - so releasing the full backs. If there isn't a spare man because the opposition has put three up front, the full backs need to be more cautious. It sounded from the commentary as if Benyon and Stockley were up front full-time with Hawley alternating between being a third striker and filling in on the right of midfield when Mansell dropped deeper. Is that what people who went thought? Tactics and formations are fun to talk about it, but it is usually the team with players who play well who win matches. Sounds like our players played well today. Yes I can understand criticism of managers, lineups, tactics etc AFTER a game but before a ball is kicked in anger, your having a laugh James. Great result and the result I predicted just knew he would get the whole squad up for this one and every player put in a shift and just as they did last week against Morcombe supported each other and played for each other. Under AK we often looked like a team of strangers today and last week we looked together and ready for the fight . That for me is the most encouraging thing to come out of the past couple of weeks. Sure its not going to be all plain sailing but I honestly don't give a monkeys who CH plays or where he plays them if we get the right results over the rest of this season. Well done to all.

That formation is based on the back three being able to pick up the front two and still have a man spare - so releasing the full backs. If there isn't a spare man because the opposition has put three up front, the full backs need to be more cautious. Thinking about it later on, I assumed it would be the same formation as against Morecambe but slightly more aggressive. I imagine Bodin was dropped for his poor performance or had an injury niggle. Either way, it's still far too attacking for me - we'll get nailed eventually, because there are better teams out there than Morecambe and Wimbledon. Our recent form indicates that we'd probably still have taken 4 points from those 2 games with Knill in charge This sort of thing often works for one or two games but when other teams pick up on it, it's easy to stop. And the same weaknesses in the team are there - Nicholson is still going to be running through treacle, Mansell is still going to be a headless chicken, and Elliot Benyon still won't be hitting those barn doors with his banjo. You can patch them over for now thanks to the momentum and air of positivity, but that won't necessarily last It was perhaps inevitable that we'd get a bounce from changing manager. The problem isn't that - it's sustaining it. John Cornforth won his first game in charge as well up in Shrewsbury, and in fact we were unbeaten in our first 3 games with him. But we soon spiralled out of control again. The skill in management isn't winning when times are good - it's finding a way to bounce back when times are tough Northampton are likely to appoint a manager before next Saturday's game and may get their own bounce at that point. If so, it could be a very difficult game. As Hargreaves' lookalike will tell you, it's all well and good riding into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey with the crowds cheering your arrival, but ultimately as a football manager you're probably still going to end up being crucified, and those same crowds will be cheering that too

Its certainly true that fans are fickle James. I'd give it 3 or 4 defeats before the usual suspects in the bench behind the dugout start telling him when and who to substitute...

High energy and in their face from the outset today. Looked like a bold move in terms of selection with three out and out forwards selected, but with Stockley as the focal point, with Benyon on the left and Hawley on the right we came out of the traps with the sort of tempo I haven't seen from us for a long time. The defensive side of Hawley's game today and hold up play by him and Stockley was superb. This was a team playing for each other, defending from the front and getting at the opposition time and time again. Some delightful build up play in the second half when we'd earned the right to play a bit of champagne stuff.
Some decent delivery from Nicholson today and it was from one of his balls, right to left, that Stockley got away a fierce shot which the keeper parried and Pearce lashed home. And with a delightful move down our right at the end of the first half, O'Connor whipped over a peach of a cross from the touch line, time stood still, Stockley rose at the back stick and calmly headed home. Half time. We were clearly going to win. That is an unusual feeling.
Could we match the intensity in the second period. Not only was the answer emphatically yes, but we offered, often, delightful build up play deserving of the 'Brazil from the West Counrtry' chants coming from the shitty cramped piss poor viewing position the Yellow Army had from the side. This was a happy day. Smiles everywhere. A happy team. A happy following.
I'll give a few out of ten ratings, but it was teamwork that shone through today more than any individual performance.
Poke 6 Couple of cracking saves in the second half, albeit that play was pulled back for a Gulls free kick on both occasions. Came off his line more. Good to see.
O'Connor 7.5 Sound defensively and effective when marauding forward (Hawley always offering cover when he did so) Pearce 7.5 Couple of mishaps, but the type of ball playing centre half the Manager wants. Nice finish Der Hammer. Downes 7 got some important headers and last ditch stuff in at times. Often fouled by Midson. Nicholson 7 Solid with some nice set piece delivery and involved often in some of the nice built up play down 'our' side in the second half
Lathrope 7 Understated and bloody good Mansell 6 Good at getting in their faces early doors. Not much quality but maximum effort first to last. Labadie 8 Nails. Crucial.
Benyon 6 Did the defensive side as well as I expect he can. Not sure he got a shot off all game, mind. Stockley 8.5 My MOTM. Great focal point for our attack. Worked hard all game and calm finish. Hawley 8 Some poor distribution in the first half but looked like our hardest worker today and some delightful one touch passes in some of our best play in the second half. And that's some accolade, given how hard we worked as a side today.

I'll upgrade Poke to a 7 as he didn't do anything wrong. Only word of caution I'd add to a fantastic performance is that Wimbledon clearly targeted our left side with pace in the second half. The nippy St-Luce got the better of Nico quite a few times.

We had a narrow pitch today and it sounds like the Plainmoor wings were a bit stodgy last week. Helpful, in the circumstances, I'd say, Rob. The type of cover Hawley was offering over on the right hand side today would help any frailties on our left another day. I think I'd put Billy over there over Benyon in terms of cover with this formation, but on a drier Plainmoor wing or wider pitch, I'd expect we'd line up much differently in terms of formation and, yes, I'd like us a bit stronger at left back.
Don't want to analyse any more today. Our energy and tempo was tremendous, we fought and fought hard and the new era is up and running with three well earned points on the board. 13 points off the play-offs. Brilliant start.
