why do they not bulldoze those old crumbling dangerzones down and build safe functional structures! if they knocked down the old dangerous shitty buildings they could redevelop the transport infrastructure!

Now, now Aussie, some of those old buildings will last a lot longer than these carp modern ones and form part of our architectural cultural heritage. Ye gods, town centres in the UK are becoming a bit identikit without knocking down what character remains.
I see that it was just the old plaster work that came down which can happen with these old buildings. Experienced this first hand at my parent's house on Christmas day some years ago! Following a plumbing leak in the bathroom during August, the lath and plaster ceiling in the lounge got quite wet but dried out and was decorated accordingly. Unfortunately the drying out process meant the plaster lost its key with the lathes and a two square metre section of ceiling fell down quite suddenly and without warning in the middle of the lounge one hour before the Christmas dinner was ready!!!!
Luckily, no was underneath the ceiling as the plaster work is really thick and we literally had to load up several wheelbarrow loads to cart the stuff out!
Considering the thickness of the plasterwork at the Edwardian Apollo and the height that it fell from then you can see why so many people were injured.....

those old buildings are exactly what they are, old buildings, by all means keep a select few for example purposes and history lessons but the rest can go, there unsafe and not fit for purpose! at what point does commons sense and safety overrule nostalgia? town centres were killed off by councils being greedy, they all appear sh1t because of snouts in troughs not modernisation! did you know that buildings are only supposed to last x amount of years? the ones at the Willows are already past their best before dates, 10 years is all the build material life expectancy was! new estate builds are shocking and the old carp is falling down, what does that tell you?
