link - crucial top of the table clash against previous leaders Sherborne on Sunday. They are the only team we have lost against, narrowly 2-3 earlier in the season. They themselves haven’t played for a month where they lost 2-1 away at St. Austell. Need a win to keep clear of Ilminster who have a free hit at home against a poor Bideford side.

1-1 draw this weekend against fellow title chasers St Austell but coupled with a painful late goal loss against Sherborne looks like the women have fallen just short this season. Just the one league game left away against likely champions Ilminster but if we can keep most of the players then will be a strong bet next season.
Of course the Devon Cup final will be TUWFC against Exeter CIty WFC on 22nd April at coach road and will be jointly sponsored by both clubs supporter trusts!

As you say, jointly sponsored by both supporters trusts. And it was only last season that Torquay United Supporters Trust paid for TUWFC to complete their season - they’ve come such a long way since then! COYYELLOOOOOOOWS!

Well done to the team, superb result. They never stopped battling against a much taller and allegedly more skilful team. What a contrast from Monday. No one feigning injury, time wasting, just pure honest endeavour with no cheating. An added factor is the fact the goalkeeper for the Gulls is actually a midfielder, in goal because the usual keeper was red carded recently and was ineligible. Not only did our keeper play well, she also scored a cracking penalty (the first in the shoot out). A very enjoyable evening. Teams like Eastleigh and the ineptitude of referees to stop the cheating in that match on Monday actually put me off watching pro-football.

Very enjoyable game of football where the Torquay United women gave absolutely everything and towards the end of the match the TUWFC subs bench looked like something out of a war zone with one player having a large egg sized lump on her forehead with others barely able to walk. The first half was very competitive where Exeter just about shaded things but there was little to choose between the two teams and you would not have expected them to be in a league above but that is the beauty of cup competition at times.
In the second half after one early initial break for Torquay United, Exeter then virtually set up camp in the Torquay half where we had to contend with wave upon wave of attacks. Exeter had many chances to score and constantly seemed to head over or wide from many corners and were very unlucky not to go ahead particularly as the Torquay goalie was actually a converted outfield player with just a couple of weeks of training. Eventually the pressure told in a move where Torquay kept trying to clear but the ball kept ricocheting back into the danger zone and Exeter were able to get a shot away into the bottom right hand corner to take the lead with about five minutes to go and to all intents and purposes this seemed to be the winner. However, six minutes of injury time was given and in the fifth minute, a rare Torquay attack saw Everson get on the ball in the area and with a crowd of players around her seemed to be taken out with the ref awarding a penalty. It was taken by the experienced DanniWyatt who smashed the ball home leaving the Exeter keeper no chance and just a minute later the tie went to penalties.
Exeter had to contend with the double whammy of going into a penalty shootout after thinking they had more or less won the trophy and also had to take each penalty second which is also always a disadvantage particularly when you’re playing catch up. After our goalkeeper stepped up to take and score the first penalty, hitting it very well, she then saved low to her left which put the pressure immediately back onto Exeter.
Although we ended up 4 goals apiece after five attempts, missing the penultimate one, it then went to sudden death and after scoring to go 5-4 up, the pressure finally told with a poor shot hit straight at our keeper bouncing back off her knees to settle the tie. Some good penalties were taken with a couple of our goals hitting the underside of the crossbar before going in. 1st cup win for Torquay United women and a very well deserved woman of the match award for our stand in keeper Sasha Mole.

A great night of women's football with players on both sides giving their all, a decent crowd made up of many young families with fans of both sides mixing in a happy atmosphere certainly a big contrast from times at Plainmoor. Exeter were clearly the favourites but United's girls ran their socks off from start to finish and although they rode their luck sheer guts and endeavour won the day thanks to a number of individual performances notably the penalty takers and, of course, hero of the night Sasha Mole.
