Ah, Sutton, another one I didn't make. There were some cracking FA Cup trips in those days and I missed most of them. But at least I finally got to see a match at Sutton a couple of years ago. And what a name for a football ground: Gander Goose Lane.
A curious looking programme: a very 1980s cover and lots of brown print with a rather naff font. With a manager called Keith Blunt, I guess his column had to be called "Bluntly Speaking". Look too how somebody has drawn a nifty map of Plainmoor to be consulted in the event of the inevitable replay.
Sutton certainly weren't short of vice-presidents and that's a pretty impressive honours board right down to the Dylon Charity Shield and Groningen Youth Tournament. First British winners also of the Anglo-Italian semi-pro tournament. That was a funny affair. One year Bath City beat both Bari and Parma. Udinese coming a cropper at Scarborough? Pull the other one!
I wonder if the Sutton United Hall of Fame cards ever turn up on eBay?
