Its not a fact (and if you think it is, your education is wasted), its an opinion. Just how many individuals have you polled from the roughly 3 thousand or so that attend games regularly, compared to the couple of dozen or do that can be bothered to post on a forum? So are you suggesting there was a silent majority of Torquay fans who didn't want us to buy a player who had scored 5 in 17 appearances for us? Put it this way - I'd be very surprised if on the day that we signed Bodin a majority of Torquay fans were muttering to themselves "waste of money, he's not that good, why didn't we spend the money on someone else?" Given that I've never been overly keen on him since he was here the first time (and that's not just me saying "I told you so" for the sake of it - the evidence is there in that thread), I can only ever remember seeing one or two people saying the same thing across either of the main forums, and a quick look through the BTPIR archives suggests the same for there too He was a popular player as people thought he added something different, especially when positioned in contrast to Morris who was considered to be quite pedestrian. Of course the reason for that isn't because one was a better player than the other - it was tactical, as well as fitting into the context of how we were playing at the time; Morris played a different role in a tired, out of form team So tired and out of form that Ling won manager of the month in March.... Interesting comments about Bodin. When he first came to us played on the right and initially was able to cut in and unleash a monster shot from his favoured left foot, scoring a few this way. Also scored against Plymouth in front of us in the new year to bring his tally up to 5 in 19 games, a decent return from a winger. Didn't score for Crewe and maybe that affected his confidence. Still scored five goals again last year which is below par but by no means a disaster in a struggling side and must not be forgotten he is still only a youngster and will improve....

He played well on loan and I was pleased that he signed as I was when Constintine Leon signed.

I think that about sums Bodin up, he played well on loan and that's about all we can rely on to determine how a player will turn out. I know it's hard for you to believe, but even I was fooled! People have said that somewhere inside Bodin (now now) is a half decent player...maybe there is. The problem with Bodin is that he believes his own hype. He turn up on the pitch on a Saturday with his hair in a pony-tail, fluorescent boots and runs around like a fairy. What he needs to do is get his hair cut, get hold of some black boot polish and then get his act together; then maybe we'll see this great player come out to play! What we're more likely to get is a Jake Robinson or a Mustafa Carayol and only see the real player when they're after a contract!

Only trying to put my finger on where the problem lays. Of course, when a team is going through a trucking fubible time it looks like the posts are being negative, whereas, if we were in a stronger position it would be looked upon as constructive criticism.

Compare us with any other club in a similar position and you will get the same if not ten times worse criticism and slagging off so we are far from unique. If anything we are a very mild mannered bunch with realistic expectations and would bet even without looking that the likes of Northampton Towns forums are full of whingers and slaggers that would shock many of us. We all have varying characters and have different views, some of us like to voice it on here and look for answers but however we react to poor form and results our frustrations are only born out of a love for the club we have supported and followed for many decades.
To today and a very important game to end this run of defeats. On the other forum it is being suggested that Poke will be on the bench but have heard he has had another setback with his torn muscle. My starting eleven would be.
Rice Tonge, Nicholson/Cruise, Pearce, OcConner, Lathrope, Mcourt, Mansell, Chapell, Azeez, Benyon.

I think one thing that stood out from the Wycombe match was Benners and Hawley together were pulling the defence apart and allowing space, so I would be loathe to change that. What i've seen of Azeez, he looks much better on the wing than up front so i would keep him there. The goals conceded looked to be from inexperience/individual errors (anfd you could say the same about York) as opposed to tactics (not to mention the handball for their first!) so I would probably go with
Rice, Tonge, Cruise, Pearce, OcConner, Mcourt, Mansell, Chapell, Azeez, Hawley, Benyon
Still looking inexperienced at the back but till Downes is fit again were a bit stuck in that area.

Its just as valid for me to point out that of the 7 of us (only 2 of whom loiter here and other TUFC forums) that sat together in the stand for several seasons (all having ST's) that 2 thought he improved the team whilst the others though he was no better than what we already had (bear in mind Danny had also just scored 5 in the same period that Bodin was on loan (in 9 games at that)). Thats before the question of how much he was going to cost was even raised.

So tired and out of form that Ling won manager of the month in March.... Well indeed - it's interesting how people have forgotten this about Morris. He played in a lot of wins and scored a couple of goals, but the overriding narrative from the fans now is that he was rubbish and never did anything. I know there were a few people weren't keen on him from the start, but maybe it was the red card against Oxford that sealed the deal on him being unpopular with our fans. He must have done something wrong, considering the amount of slack other players have been cut - perhaps he should've waved his arms around a bit and shouted "come on" a few times a game I liked him and was sorry to see him go. We could have done with him for more of last year. We could do with him now

Just to show we dont always disagree James, im with you on that. The couple of times he played in the centre mid as opposed to being out wide I thought he looked the part.

Pretty sure Pearce being sent off is worse than going 1-0 down at this stage...

Pretty sure Pearce being sent off is worse than going 1-0 down at this stage... Two yellows equal one game ban? Will be back for pompey. At least the rot stopped a little and a clean sheet! Trying to be positive ahead of my trip down next week!!
