Buoyed by the recent transfer activity I have just done something I have NEVER done before and that is place a bet on our beloved Gulls to win the League at 7/1! Admittedly I have also placed a similar bet on us being placed in the first four, which should leave me a little better than break even overall (if I've worked it out right!) if we dont actually win the thing.
I'm quite surprised that our odds don't appear to have shortened, given the quality of the signings we have made, but I really don't know how much attention the bookies pay to this in all honesty.
Now I should explain that I am not a betting man (you may have already gathered!) but I just think that given how close we came last year, given the improvements that we have made to the playing squad, given the removal of the wage cap restrictions ... I just feel this is going to be our year. Personally, there is no way that I can see us finishing outside of the top four anyway!
I reckon Stevenage and Rushden could be there or thereabouts and I wouldn't discount Burton, and you would expect perhaps Wrexham to do pretty well, not so sure about Mansfield though.
As for dark horses, I reckon Grays, Kidderminster and Crawley could do well this year but there aren't too many others that I feel are likely to threaten. I might have fancied Oxford and Cambridge, but as things stand, with no additions to either squad, I cant see them doing much.
Anyway, thanks to Blue Square as they have kindly put £ 25 towards my little bet I am really hoping that I have more than just promotion back into the Football League to celebrate next May!
What do the real betting experts think of our chances this year ... and does 7/1 represent good value?
