It must have been a convivial time in the 1950s with a netball competition between groups of supporters and an Brentford fans' holiday to Blankenberghe and the Brussels Expo. The Bees are also off to the World Cup in Sweden: "Pele? He wouldn't last five minutes down Griffin Park".
Vic Oliver, honorary vice-president, was apparently the first ever castaway on Desert Island Discs. Well, well.

But you have to say that a 13 day sea trip to the World cup closing stages for 55 guineas (and yes, I've done the maths!) was excellent value. Get the butler to pack my trunk and I'll book passage. None of that new-fangled air travel for me, I'll be on the poop deck with Harold Pinter's new play - The Birthday Party sounds like the ideal light-hearted holiday read.
