Phew, that was close...good old Manse! If we are to do well in a competition this year, let it be the FA Cup...at least we will make money out of it! Nice easy home game against non league opposition to get the ball rolling at "Fortress Plainmoor" Oh hang on a minute that may not be ideal!

Here's my view from the front row of Bristow Bench last night. Can you spot Knill and Brass? Lovely glowing sunset.

180 minutes with no goals. A pessimist would say we couldn't score in a brothel. An optimist would point to two clean sheets. Another confident performance from Rice topped off with one world-class save. I was more surprised at the general sense of assured calm - we've always known he is a great shot-stopper. Pearce and Downes were both outstanding - and seem to be developing as a partnership. Less good news on the creative front. Things picked up with Sullivan starting to link things up. Interesting thoughts from the manager here: www.torquayunited.com/news/article/sully-and-bright-1036513.aspxBenyon pushed wide left to allow Sullivan to play just behind Ball. The large gap between the midfield and attack was bridged and we looked far more effective. Will the manager tweak his rigid 4-4-2 to give us a bit more depth? I could imagine Chappell and Ball playing either side of Hawley with Sullivan linking up - but definitely as more of a "slightly withdrawn striker" than a "slightly pushed up midfielder". Would that be 4-4-2, 4-4-1-1, 4-2-3-1, 4-2-1-3 or what? Probably won't happen anyway.
