Roger Hunt playing for Bolton right at the end of his career. I'd almost forgotten about that.
You wonder if Grunhalle Lager is actually best forgotten. Brewed in Greenall Whitley Land as the old adverts used to chirp.

I guess you wouldn't have too many FA Cup 3rd round games between two sides in the bottom six of the third division. How extraordinary!
Bolton beat Rossendale United to reach that stage in a game played in front of over 12,000 at Bury. Rossendale United are now defunct and, as Felix and myself discovered en route to Rochdale recently, their ground lies derelict and forgotten.

On this day I was at the Stoke City v Chesterfield game which ended with the same scoreline as Bolton v Torquay. It was a terrific match in which Chesterfield's right winger Kevin Randall tormented Stoke left back Micky Pejic and also scored with a chip over Gordon Banks. In fact the Spireites played so well that my dad wrote a letter to the Derbyshire Times and I think that was the only time he ever did that. Stoke fans abused Peter Dobing from start to finish but he looked a pretty decent player to me. It was Pejic and John Ritchie who were particularly bad.
It was Alan Stevenson's last game before he went off to Burnley and played over 500 matches for the Clarets.
Note one of the other fixture on the day was Newcastle v Hereford. We all know what happened in that tie, don't we? Funny to think that on the day of the Third Round none of us had ever seen Ronnie Radford's goal, because it didn't happen till the replay and that didn't take place till 4th Round day.
