2218 is a pretty decent gate for preliminary round match in the Leyland DAF Cup. But, of course, we'd reached the final the previous season and - looking back - it's interesting just how early that was in the competition's history. We've rarely threatened in the intervening years. In fact our longest involvement since was the following year (1990/91) when our group stage games had to be replayed after the original games all ended in draws.
Interesting to see the Bristolian Paul Hirons featured in that programme. His fifteen minutes of fame - when he scored the FA Cup winner against West Ham - was but a few months away.
And what of Jason Dixon - "a star of the future, we shall see" - who scored those seventeen goals against Chudleigh? Jason, are you out there? You must be around forty-years-old now.
