Guess I'm probably going to be in the minority when I say I had a computer...

prompted by PeteF talking about his Lambretta, what do you remember having from your childhood? i had a chopper and a spacehopper, meccano. What did you have? At various points between the ages of about 5 to 16 the things that stick out in the memory would be:- Lambretta LI 150 Motor Scooter (another Mod!); Parka Jacket to go with above! (obligatory); Home-made Go-Kart (with dodgy brakes); Subbuteo (was bloody good until somebody introduced me to the rules!); Loads of 45's and 33's (the Floyd / Tull / Ash / Purple / Groundhogs / Zep / Yes / ELP / Hoople / Free / Moody B era was my favourite); Triumph pedal cycle (stolen from Rackerhayes whilst either at rugby or watching somebody fish - I couldn't touch the slimy creatures with my bare hands!); The Royal Navy in Airfix form (father now 91 was RN); 1s3d to get into Plainmoor (and confidence that having entered we would score a hatful of goals and win!). ..... and what didn't I have:- Television (black and white flickering box with one channel only arrived in the house when I was 8); Telephone (arrived when I was 21 about a month after I had moved out); Family car (about 12 when my father got his first car - although the delights of steam rail journeys made up for that!); Electric lighting (had it in our house - but candle light to go off to bed in the many weeks I spent with my cousins on my uncle's farm at Capton near Dittisham); Inside toilet (again we had this modern facility but but when visiting grandmother on father's side at Appledore it was out into the back yard when the need arose. It was a posh double hole one though so you could sit and have a chat when doing the necessary!) Bath (5 when I had this luxury after moving from Plymouth to Newton Abbot. In Plymouth it was a tin bath in front of the fire on a Friday night (rumour has it that in Plymouth that is still regarded as the height of luxury!). One poster on here said they had a computer! I think before posting they had not read the thread title 'Many Years Ago'!

Out of everything, the bikes, the football shirts, the rugby shirts, the computers, everything, the one thing that stays with me more than anything was the complete collection of Secret Seven books by Enid Blyton.
