Peter Laraman joined Torquay United as a 20 year old inside forward from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 1961, having scored one goal in two league appearances.
In the programme notes for the opening game of the 1961/62 season against Crystal Palace, Laraman is described as “a player with a lot of promise who is expected to prove a highly useful capture.”

Laraman made his debut for Torquay against Barnsley on Thursday, 7 September, and responded in spectacular fashion by scoring a hat trick in his team’s 6-2 victory. This was a remarkable win as Torquay lost seven of their first eight league matches at Plainmoor that season and also lost at home to Bournemouth in a league cup replay.
Laraman scored a further two goals in the 3-1 victory away to Lincoln City on 23 September, but soon fell out of favour and ended the season with five goals from only nine league matches. This seems rather surprising as Torquay were battling against relegation all season and experienced an extraordinarily high number of injuries.
He played in the reserves for the remainder of the season and the programme for the last match against Swindon on 23 April, shows that he scored 27 goals in the Western League at slightly over one goal per game. This suggests that he deserved a further run in the first team and the whole episode remains an enigma.

According to Wikipedia, Laraman played for Durban City (1962-64), Slavia Melbourne (1965-66 with 27 goals from 39 games) and Pan Hellenic (1967-68), but there are no further details of his career.
Can anyone provide further information regarding Peter Laraman’s time with Torquay United and why his first team appearances were limited? Does anyone remember watching the 6-2 win against Barnsley?
