Snow!

Not something that we see too often in the bay and even then it is generally light and rarely lasts more than a day or two! When was the last time that football at Plainmoor was cried off due to snow? However, H & S being what it is these days, doesn't take much! I suppose my first memory of the stuff was as a nipper back in February 1978 when briefly living in a village in the East of the County. Back then, strong Easterly winds saw a clash between cold Continental air and an mid Atlantic storm which deposited 50cm of snow before being pushed back out beyond the Cornish. Next day I had the surreal experience of walking on hedge tops before losing my footing and disappearing into a snow drift! ;D Watching the weather forecast tonight, there are some similarities almost 35 years on although it is not as cold and the Atlantic front will march eastwards over us bringing some relatively milder air but any snow in Tor Bay will probably see the normal over reaction. With a bit of luck, the Chesterfield match should be unaffected although we may be one of the few lower league grounds to get the go ahead on Saturday. I see that South Wales has a red weather warning and it could be an interesting time for certain members on here in that part of the world. With some of us maybe not going out tomorrow, feel free to post any pictures or stories connected with the white stuff!

With the exception of fading actresses of course

Hampstead's posh alright, but definitely in London. It's 3 stops on the northern line from Camden Town and quite a bit further south than Tottenham.
That particular pub and the street it's in is two minutes away from the station. It's very atmospheric in snow or mist, whatever the views of the local gentry. It's hard to believe you're in London, that's for sure.

Snow!

After listening to the weather forecast for Friday, I was expecting the sort of snow we got back in 1963 to fall on Devon. I got up at 5am on Friday and looked out of the window, there was just a light covering of snow on the ground. By the time I got ready to leave for work the snow had started to fall much more heavier and up on the ring road it was almost blizzard conditions. Strangely as I got to the Kerswell Roundabout, there was no sign of any snow at all and when I got to Newton Abbot, it was only rain falling down from the sky. I soon found myself driving in real heavy snow again when I headed off towards Telegraph Hill, here the snow was thick on the ground and care was needed to get down that big hill safely. The drive to Okehampton was not an easy one and at times it was only possible to drive at 10mph, the snow was very heavy and the road was so hard to pick out in the dark. From Okehampton I drove to Holsworthy and was expecting to find this town under even more snow, but there was no sign any snow had fallen on Holsworthy at all. Bideford and Barnstaple had a light covering of snow, but I have been to these two towns in the past when it was almost impossible to drive around due to the amount of snow they had had. It was not until I left South Molton and headed for Tiverton that I came across some real deep snow, at 11am it was still snowing in this location and when ever we do get snow, this area always gets plenty of snow. By the time I got to Exeter any snow that had fallen there had long since gone and the only snow still in that area was up on Haldon Hill. Is this all the snow we are going to get this winter?
