Don't score enough goals in open play. simple -lucky to have got one with a pen. When we do ever win , forgotten when that was, its usually by the odd goal, been this way for a long while nowl. Still a points a point and was quite surprised we even got that tonight.

sorry but ling does not know what to do when we are struggling , he does not start with wide men brings them on and still dont run down the wing and cross the for the best striker in the division they cut in side and lost the ball , its clear to me 6 games same system does not work time for a change leadership or playing staff dont mean new players in (cannt fund that) system change to suit the players with have 4 4 2

Three points would have been nicer but a good result none the less. Whereas Exeter were coasting to an easy home win on Saturday we had a tough game at Burton followed by a long journey home.
On a difficult surface tonight I'm sure we had plenty of tired legs. But still not many teams win at home to Exeter, I think you have to look back to last October to see them losing a league game on their travels, yet we came very close to beating them tonight.
As has been mentioned the fans got their wish with attacking subs (Thompson and Stevens) being brought on when we were leading rather than players to bolster the defence.
A good hard fought point against a side that's in the automatic promotion places...well done to Lingy and the lads.

I was quite grateful with a point in the end. Exeter totally dominated the second half and Gow was very impressive when he came on at half-time. We were pinned back in the second half but manfully stuck to our task. Our back 4 was as usual solid with Downes and Saah ever dependable. Poke made a great save in the second half to claw away a fick-on that was just going in on the ground. Mansell got welll stuck in and won lots of tackles. But there was no outlet in the second half and the ball kept coming back. I thought some of Exeter's football in the second half was a delight and I think they are going places considering they were without their best 2 strikers (O'Flynn went off early with an injury).
As for the penalties, they were both quite soft. Howe got pushed in the box for a header in the first half and the tricky Gow got tripped in the box for Exeter's - there was not much contact but they are normally given these days.
There were some disappointing performances. Bodin again was pretty poor including his shooting, Craig was pretty error prone. As usual we were too reliant on Howe to get things going in attack. The second half was the poorest attacking display I've seen from Torquay for a long time. As I said, luckily we are solid at the back. Still another point towards safety but we are looking very lightweight going forward

Relieved to come away with the point I would have taken before the game! The pitch held up pretty well and overall an acceptable performance against a team third in the table. Just seen the both penalty incidents again on Sky Sports News and can understand why they were given. I was too far away to make a judgment on Danny going down in a heap at the end. He wasn't cautioned for simulation so it must have been a pretty good shout. Exeter were disappointing and pretty one dimensional in the first half but played a lot better in the second and deserved something from the game. Manse was immense tonight and was my MOTM by a country mile. But the highlight of the evening for me was a quip from a city fan parking up at the same time as me in Cary park. "Am I OK to park here" he asked, and I replied " yes,but next season they are putting bloody meters in and we will have to pay". His reply " What the hell are Newport County fans going to make of that" obviously he is astute enough to realise that newport will be promoted

Disappointing to concede late on again but probably fair to say that Exeter deserved it after having a lot of ball in the second half and would have already been level but for a lovely save by Poke after a flick from close range was just scooped around the post. Saying that, we were the better team in the first half and their keeper was the busier of the two as we attacked towards the Ellacombe end. The game started in typical local Derby fashion with strong challenges and not too much time on the ball given. Nice to get a rare penalty this season from a soft handball and Rene gave their keeper no chance whatsoever. We weren't dominant but certainly had the better of the play with both Craig and Rene closed down quickly when half chances presented themselves. In the second half, Manse worked tirelessly but we started to defend deeper and deeper as Exeter won the lion share of possession. Our best chance came from a well struck Nico cross that I thought Rene spooned but which their keeper had to tip over the bar. No complaints about the penalty, their player got through a tackle leaving Oastler the wrong side of him and although he went to ground fairly easily, there was enough contact and pushing to justify the decision. Gow struck his penalty as well as Rene to even things up. Deep in injury time, Danny seemed to get through and from my angle was pushed similarly to the ground but no decision was given - anyone get a better view?

Not a classic, but you wouldn't expect a local derby to be - especially on a boggy pitch.
I was surprised at the Exeter team - above all the omission of Gow -and even more surprised to see them line up in a regular 4-4-2 formation. Tisdale usually comes up with something more complicated than that - a diamond or a christmas tree or some such.
Tully played wide right of midfield. There didn't seem to be any creativity in the Exeter team and what football was played in the first half came from Torquay. We deserved to go in 1-0 up.
Exeter changed personnel and shape at half time. Keohane had already replaced the injured O'Flynn up front early on in the first half, but now he dropped back into midfield.
Gow came on for Bauza and operated as a lone striker - I had always thought of him more as a player who played tucked in behind a lone striker. He showed more quality in his first two minutes on the pitch than all his colleagues had put together in the first 45.
Ten minutes in to the second half Davies, who had been playing wide left, was replaced by Oakley. Keohane went wide left and Oakley played in the middle 3 in what was now a 4-5-1 with even the one drifting around.
I am sure there are City fans who will moan about not playing lots of strikers, but what looked on paper a defensive setup allowed City to totally dominate possession. They kept the ball very well - making us look poor.
Ironically, they now seemed to be playing the way you feel Ling would like us to play - to the disgust of many of our fans.
I thought that Thompson for Jarvis, with Craig moving into the centre was an attempt to counter this by pulling an extra man into centre midfield - but it didn't really work. Craig seemed to stay well pushed up rather than dropping deeper to stop us losing the midfield battle.
On balance, City deserved at least a point. We won the first half, but they won the second half far more convincingly than we had won the first.
Now for the REAL Devon derby. Bring on Buckland!
