Just incase you haven't heard/ read elsewhere, Matt Hockley has joined "big spending" Truro City. New Truro boss Sean McCarthy obviously knows a tough tackling midfielder when he sees one and has offered him a 1 Year contract at Treyew Road. It appears that he'll be linking up ( and probably travelling to games)with fellow ex Gulls Kevin Wills and Joe Broad and also joining the ranks will be ex Grecian, Barry McConnell. I know Matt has been mulling over various possibilities since his release from Plainmoor but, on a personal note, I am delighted that he has found himself another club which will afford him a decent wage, and will enable him to still live in the Torbay area.....albeit with a little bit of commuting! I'm sure others will join me in wishing Hockers all the best at his new club. .................."COME ON "THE MARLDON BOY!!!!"

Good luck to the lad, he's been a great servant to us over the years and at least he should be getting a half decent wage there.

It always makes me angry when people slag Matt off for being a crap footballer. They never quite seem to see the "bigger picture." Matt is the type of player that, in his own words, would "get stuck in, win the ball, then play it simple to the playmaker of the team"..............exactly what he did when we had Fowler and Aggy at Plainmoor. He may not have had the trickery or skill of Ronaldo, but he sure as hell played with his heart on his sleeve.......and if it was mathematically possible to give 110%, he'd bloody well give it!! Hockers never swerved a tackle either. If he went in for a challenge and it was going to hurt, then "so be it" was his attitude. No wonder his team mates called him "Pitbull." I, for one, will miss his tough "workmanlike" displays at Torquay. Our loss is definitely Truro's gain!!

I shall certainly be making my usual two trips down to Truro once the season gets under way properly.

Agree entirely, I've never heard a fellow player be as critical (indeed critical at all) or disrespectful of Hockers as some of the clowns who have derided him on other sites. As you say, they can't see the wider picture and fail to realise that you can't put a fancy roof and windows on a house if you haven't got the foundations to hold it all up.

Great news I have always like Matt, local lad who gave his all, clubs need players like him, who put every once of effort into their game.
Good to see Kevin Wills is also doing OK. I found it hard to forgive the club in our promotion season.
Two days before the team went on their parade on the open top bus, Kevin and two others were told the club was letting them go.They were not on the bus tour.
I just felt it could have waited till after the bus tour, him and the other two had played some part in that season and should have been part of the glory celebrations.

But you weren't at the Buckland Athletic game, were you Merse? Wring played much better than Hockers! It's true that MOST pros are full of respect for the players who do the hod-carrying. But I remember Donal Murphy once being disrespectful of Twitch and incurring the wrath of Mike Green.

I remember Donal Murphy once being disrespectful of Twitch and incurring the wrath of Mike Green. I think Donal, Roy Davies, Dave Smith and my old mate Jimmy Dunne turned Greeny grey overnight! I remember being out with Roy one night and he decided to do his "Norman Wisdom" party piece in a pub as he had just disappeared into the gents..................... "Mr Grimsdale, Mr Grimsdale I can't find the door into the toilets" came the plaintiff cry from outside, "Mr Grimsdale help me it's urgent""Mr Grims........" as a foot, then an arm and finally Roy burst into the bar through a partition wall. The guy was a bloody lunatic - Mark Loram? A pussy cat in comparison.
