Looking at the fixture list I think this is one of the tougher, if not the toughest game this month and I will be be happy to get anything out of this match! Not that there has been a honourable draw between the us and them recently and although we did the double over them in the 10/11 season, including a good 0-3 away win, they have won the other four games played since our promotion with them only needing 10 men for a 1-0 victory the last time we were at their ground. Funny enough 1-0 has been the score recently against the other two Devon sides, winning against Plymouth but going down to Exeter. It has been a good season for Bradford so far, a point ahead of us in the play offs and amazingly still in all the cup competitions! They drew in the second round of the FA Cup last Saturday with Brentford, beat Port Vale in the JPT on Tuesday and play Arsenal in the quarter finals next Tuesday. Amongst all those cup matches, they have a league match with us which may or may not be to our advantage. Their last league match was away to Bristol where they drew 3-3 with Pickles making a point against the club he went to after leaving us! It does mean that they will have faced 4 Westcountry Clubs in a row in their league matches! Looking at their team. ex Torquay player, Alan Connell seems to be number 3 both on the striker list and league goals with James Hanson and Nihki Wells literally banging them in left, right and centre and will be the dangermen. After two wins in a row, I cannot see Ling changing things around unless their is an injury or tactical imperative. After moving up five places last Saturday, we know a win will guarantee us to sit back in the play offs....

I don't usually look forward to visiting Valley Parade but being still on honeymoon, as it were, with TUFC following my bitter divorce from the abusive bully that became Chesterfield FC I am anticipating the game with pleasure.
It took me 55 years and 348 days to see Torquay win for the first time and I am expecting it to be sooner before it happens again. Bradford City seem to be having a better season than usual but, ironically, in front of smaller attendances. Last time I was there the crowd was 11,000 and while such a throng would entail people sitting on the stand roofs at Plainmoor it still looked a bit threadbare in City's vast stadium. In the pre-fire era the ground was one of the worst in the League, as well as one of the scariest. It's good that there is always a memorial flag to the victims in the corner of the new stadium although it sticks in the craw somewhat that the club's appalling and ultimately fatal negligence led to them getting a lovely new ground at public expense.
At least sitting among the Yellow Army I should be spared the racist chants aimed at Bradford's ethnic diversity which spoiled my last trip. Three points would be nice as well. With City still in both Cups they couldn't be blamed for being a bit tired and distracted so it's a chance for our lads to pull off a smash and grab. And regardless of the result there will certainly be some of Barton's artistic photos to enjoy later, so what's not to like?

They drew in the second round of the FA Cup last Saturday with Brentford Looks like they're out now though. Guess you could call it a technical knockout

That's a commentary on our truly appalling record at Saltergate as much as your relative longevity. And regardless of the result there will certainly be some of Barton's artistic photos to enjoy later, so what's not to like? That may depend on whether I'm set loose in the Gothic surrounds of Undercliffe cemetery. Weather update: I write from Headingley. It's positively balmy compared to recent days. And, no, I'm not here because I got my India v England venues muddled.

Reading the match statistics on BBC Sport I think we rode our luck to only lose 1-0!

Hello is there anybody there? Not much to say about this one it seems. Bradford on a resurgent run get the only goal of the game, through our ex player Alan Connell whilst having 31 shots to our 4 with 13 on target to our 0. Would have been an injustice if they hadn't won with us down to ten it had that air of inevitability about it. Once we lost Saah, from what sounded like a dubious decision the game was up for us and it was all about trying to survive the onslaught. We failed of course so its on to the next game and for Ling to try and perform a minor miracle with our small squad. Points in the bag we do have at least unlike our rivals Bristol Rovers who, once again are calling for the managers head. Looks like they could have the best new ground in the Conference. What there position does emphasise though is just how easy it is to spiral down the slippery slope and when your down there its even harder to get out of the rut you have created. Our away scoring ratio is as any bad as any mind you which is becoming a bit of a concern though fortunately we haven't been shipping to many either but I am starting to wonder when Rene will score again seems he's been sussed by defenders and poor Billy continues to struggle and is now injured. Maybe the break will do him some good. Ill be more than relieved when we reach 50 points, perhaps then we can plan on investing in a stronger squad for next season.

Seems as if Poke played a blinder and we were lucky to come away with just +1 added to the goals conceded column.

Well, we came within a few minutes of pulling off what would have been the grittiest 0-0 draw imaginable. Torquay were always at a big disadvantage after the sending off, which changed the game entirely and looked to me like a travesty although maybe it might seem different on the TV tonight.
From what I recall Brian Saah won the ball with a typically fine tackle and was fouled as he did so, and Meredith's momentum meant that the two collided with each other. Brian tried to shrug the smaller man away and I suppose it is possible his arm might have touched Meredith's head and knocked him over but the little cheating bastard certainly made a huge drama out of it. The ref was quite prepared, it seemed, to ignore these theatrics, only for a linesman to stick his oar in, after which the red card came out and off went the Gulls captain for an undeserved early bath.
Soon after this injustice Niall Thompson turned beautifully and shot past the goalkeeper but against the post, but after that the game was a total siege. City hit the bar, hit the post, shot high, wide and against heroic blocking defenders, and also found Pokey in excellent form. Just as it looked as if we had pulled it off, though, Alan Connell hit an unstoppable peach of a shot which was heading for the top corner as soon as he struck it, and all our brave effort was in vain.
This was a very one sided game in truth but the sending off was definitely the turning point. No disgrace is attached to Torquay's performance though. City are a very good side at this level, with far more talent in their XI than we could possibly muster and they were also able to bring on a couple of substitutes who would walk into the United team any day of the week. Torquay don't have any brilliant genius in the squad but they do have great team spirit which will no doubt continue to bring points against sides who, on paper, should be beating us easily and whose players will certainly be getting higher wages.
A couple of additional observations: City's theme tune, consisting of "Claret & Amber" being repeated ad nauseam, must be one of the most embarrassing in the League while Torquay's away strip is possibly the ugliest I have ever seen. The players looked as if they were wearing chorister's cassocks with yellow paint smeared down the sides. I hope I never see it again; in fact I'd rather see them in green and black, that's how vile it is.
Still proud of the team, though!

Gutted that we were not able to hold out, thought that we were going too as the clocked ticked on. I will be interested to hear the views on Saah's sending off, sounds harsh and I don't think that Saah would be the kind of player who would come to mind when thinking of violent conduct. I'm glad that Downes did not get a yellow card as I think that would have caused a suspension (?) meaning next week could have seen McKenzie and MacDonald at the heart of defence!! Anyway, onwards and upwards and lets hope for an upturn in fortunes next weekend. As petef mentions, it could be worse, look at Bristol Rovers where their forum is once more calling for a managerial head, less than 12 months after Buckle faced the Memorial Stadium guillotine!!

Thanks for the account of the sending off wildebeeste, I did wonder if there was any amateur dramatics involved on the part of the 'injured party', I am sure it was embarrassing to see, as is usually the case with footballers going for an Oscar in the attempt to convince the officials. No doubt he was up and running like a spring lamb upon seeing the red card produced?

Mmm the new Paul Raynor ?
"they were also able to bring on a couple of substitutes who would walk into the United team any day of the week. " One from West Ham apparently.
Very galling to say the least and so bloody frustrating to hear those Bradford fans yelling for anything. Oh for an intimidating atmosphere at Plainmoor ! Maybe we could get a few dodgy decisions in our favour for a change...
