Cycling champion Bradley Wiggins is currently nursing broken ribs and bruises at home, and whilst we wish him (and British cycling Head Coach, Shane Sutton) all the best, let's remember the thousands of other cyclists who are also knocked over by careless drivers offering the "Sorry, didn't see you mate" (SDSYM) excuse.
Of course, a sizeable minority of cyclists don't help themselves or others by jumping lights, not wearing lights or riding on pavements. But were it anyone other than Wiggins who'd been knocked over we'd doubtless hear the "bet he jumped a light" BS. In this case, whatever the circumstances, as is usual, it was the person behind the tonne of metal who came through unscathed whilst the cyclist ended up in hospital.
All the best Wiggo, and let's hope all those perfect drivers who never speed, never fiddle with the radio whilst driving, never pay more attention to what their passengers are saying than the road, always look both ways when exiting junctions etc remember that their vehicle of choice is responsible for so many more casualties than light-jumping cyclists.
