had enough now, dont give a toss, anyone want to buy a season ticket? I'm off up north to watch non-league and the return of the mighty Aberdare Athletic. They will re-take their rightful place that Torquay stole from them many years ago. Torquay have wasted the opportunity and should be replaced immediately can i hitch a ride stuartb? sounds like fun

By all accounts, we played excellently.
As everyone knows, performances are far more important than results.

By all accounts, we played excellently. As everyone knows, performances are far more important than results. Don't wish to intrude too much on the bartering over discarded season tickets, but I thought I'd post some thoughts on the game tonight before turning in. We created lots of chances, dominated the game and were unlucky to lose to Barnet's only real chance they had all night. We certainly looked a cut above Barnet, and if that display is the sort that fans at Plainmoor describe as 'boring', then I'm not really sure what anyone can do about that. Billy Bodin had a frustrating game, was unlucky to not win a penalty early on and is obviously trying like hell to get things going. We looked in control for most of the game but we lost some of our composure after they took the lead. Rene Howe was as good as he's been every time I've seen him this season. He covers so much ground, and he's obviously going to be a huge miss during his impending suspension. Pokey seemed to go off with a leg injury, and he cut a forlorn figure as he made his way back to the dugout (Nicho was taking goal kicks before he went off). Rice looked confident as his replacement and wasn't at fault for the goal. But didn't really have a lot to do tbh. Some wayward finishing, some worrying conundrums for the manager for Oxford away and another disappointing result. But it was a huge improvement on last season's showing at Underhill, even if we did leave with all 3 points on that occasion.

Was going to put on my match report but having read so many negative comments from people who were NOT at the game I will wait until the morning.
I will say it was one of the best performances I have seen for a while. A fair result would have been 5-1 to us.
The referee was the worst I have seen for a long time and my god I've seen some poor ones.
Keep the faith we deserve better than some of the inane comments on here!!!

Another appalling result. What is the excuse tonight Ling? We battered them did we? Unlucky not to score! Ling is so defense minded it is untrue. We play Easten who is a defensive midfielder when we are playing Barnet! Go and attack them. Plymouth beat them 4-1 for christ sake. We only score if Howe scores as a rule. Bar Howe, Saah, Downes and Lathrope, my opinion is the rest have been dam right awful most of this season. Why Yeoman or Jarvis cant have a chance up top with Howe I just don't know. Week in Week out we play the very lazy and totally uncommitted Bodin who I know is young but like Macklin, wont do anything in the game. Tonights result like Sat is appalling. Very interesting comments - were you at the game last night? Easton played as a defensive midfielder, did he? Ling defence-minded, was he? Bodin lazy and uncommitted, really? Maybe it was me who got my directions wrong and ended up at the wrong ground, because I'm sure you weren't at the same match as me. Unless..... Unless you weren't actually at the game and are talking out of your arse about events you didn't see for yourself. No, surely that wouldn't be it.

Where do I begin. If this had been a boxing match the fight would have stopped in favour of Torquay at half time.
You always wonder which team is going to turn up.
Last night we attacked from the first whistle. After a couple of minutes after some great inter passing between Howe and Bodin, Billy was taken out in the penalty area. A more blatant penalty I've ever seen. The referee and linesman ignored the obvious penalty and the game continued.
This set the scene for the whole game. Some of the worst refereeing I've ever seen in 57 years of watching football. He never gave us anything in the game at all.
The best first half performance for a long time. Bodin played as well as I have ever seen him. Mansell was chasing everthing in his own tigerish way. The only thing we hadn't done was put the ball in the net, which was worrying considering how much of the possession we had. Their goalkeeper did bring off some good saves.
The second half started like the first, although the sight of Poke limping off was a worry.
Again we had all the play but none of the luck. All decisions going against us.
Then the killer blow of the Barnet goal. Think we should have had a free kick before they broke. Difficult to tell if the goal was poorly defended as it came out of the blue.
The game came to the final few minutes with the inevitable time wasting which the officials failed to stop. I think it was Downes who grabbed the ball to get play restarted when there followed an altrecation where a Barnet player clearly threw a punch but only received a yellow card!!!
It was difficult to comprehend how we had not won this game.
A final few points:
I went with a frien who had never watched football at this level and he was very complementary about our team. Also thought the officials were appalling and as he watches rugby said they would never be allowed to officiate again if they were so bad.
Also I must Davids was by no means a legend. He spent most of the wandering around When tackled he fell to the ground in a heap appealing to the referee and generally reminding me of his similar ilk in the Premiership!
The players and supporters were marvellous last night. Howe and Mansell came over to the ground at the end and signed programmes for the youngsters. Well done
I apologise if my outburst last night offended anyone. I just couldn't believe the comments by some posters on a game they had not seen.

Nice summary and sounded streets ahead of the clueless showing on Saturday. Getting a bit worried about our seeming inability to tuck the ball in the bag though?

Thank goodness for the considered posts from those who were at the game.
Maybe in future those posters who are stuck in their negativity and aren't at the games will give others a rest from the messages they appear to get through the ether!

I picked up on the fact that we were creating more chances during the match, as I suggested on here. But what is concerning isn't that we weren't creating chances - and it has never been that we've not been creating chances - but the fact that our shots on target ratio is so poor
We had 17 shots last night, of which 5 were on target. Barnet had 8 shots, of which 4 were on target. We needed more than double the number of shots to get 1 more on target - and that extra 1 must have come right at the end because for ages the number of shots on target were the same for both sides. It's all well and good dominating the game and creating chances if you're not making the goalkeeper work. Otherwise you end up like Liverpool, declaring war on post, bar and the fans behind the goal, before denying that you're not playing well because of it and saying there's a conspiracy against you. It might not be an abject performance but that doesn't make it good either - a friend of mine who was at the game (a Cambridge fan) said we were the better side but that it was one of the worst games of football he'd ever seen
As some have pointed out, what goes around comes around. We scabbed a lucky win up there last year when McLeod missed a hatful of chances. But I do wonder what effect this will have on team morale, coming quickly after the Harrogate defeat. And the last thing we need going to Oxford not scoring goals is Rene out
