Just along the way from the Stadium of Light is Roker Park, Sunderland's former ground. The site, now a couple of roads of houses, lies about half-a-mile inland from the coast. If you didn't know the story of the football ground you would still notice something odd about the modern suburban houses in amongst Roker's distinctive single-storey older dwellings. You may conclude they were built on the site of an old factory. But the street names give the game away.
