It’s been a very hard time for some years for pubs to stay in business and last year alone 39 pubs a week were closing in Britain, a rate 20 times faster than three years before. The economic downturn has had a major impact on the pub trade and the smoking ban has also hit pubs hard and it will certainly get worse if the drink driving limit is lowered as it is expected to be.
It must be even harder for a landlord to keep his pub going if the building next door just happened to be a pub as well and I think it must be a bit unusual to have two pubs right next door to each other.
I stopped and found a place nearby to take the pictures below around 8am this morning and I think just for fun I shall make it a where is it post. I would expect Barton will know and I wonder if Stefano has been here? If not then I wonder if he will be there taking a look next week.
There is a third pub just down the road and this pub is painted a cream colour and all that has been done to it is some red material has been stuck on the front of the pub to make the red cross of St George. I aways laugh when I drive past this pub as it has a sign outside that says Sunday Carvery here every Sunday, on what other day could you possibly have a Sunday carvery.
Just up the road is the White Hart and the Crown & Septre who both are showing the world cup games and are doing all they can to try and get those wanting to go to a pub to watch the game inside their pub and not the one next door.
So where are these two pubs?
