Brilliant stuff again Timbo.
A few thoughts:
Ralph Calland's younger brother ended up playing for us, as did his even younger brother.
Reserves playing Hereford and Yeovil!
Crocked players always got shoved on the left wing, didn't they? I wonder if this practice gave left wingers an inferiority complex.

The reference to the BBC and a programme called "Sport in the West" suggests the media spotlight was gradually being turned up rather earlier than I had first thought. It sounds like this was a regional Home Service programme covering an area from Gloucestershire downwards - allegations of "Bristol bias" I wonder?
Does anybody remember those relatively early regional sports broadcasts?

Jon has previously mentioned the excellent Pride of Anglia - Ipswich Town Football Club site - www.tmwmtt.com/poa - which includes reports of every Ipswich Town game ever played right up to the one I saw on Saturday. Wherever possible it also features programme covers including these which predate Timbo's example from 1948. Wit is a pernicious thing....

It would be great to be able to see the pages that were inside those covers, I wonder when our club put out its first programme? I also wonder if the club kept a copy of every single programme there has been. Will have to ask Darryl or Terry to go poking around in some store areas up at Plainmoor.
