Extraordinary stuff, torregull. After my contribution to this thread on October 19th 2018, I'd added nothing further until Febuary 5th 2019. There may well have been another 3 or 4 month gap before I'd wanted to say anything further, had it not been for the request from YOU to hear more from me. To now seemingly complain that 'I'm waiting for any opportunity', when you were the very person eagerly encouraging me to write further, really does take the biscuit.
Enjoy your weekend.
AJ.

TRUST TALK COBBLERS......OWNERSHIPI know how much everyone has always enjoyed those occasions when TrustWatch goes on the road. And now with some mild Spring like weather, let’s pack a picnic and head off to Northampton. And before anyone shouts ‘Cobblers’, they should be reminded that Northampton is widely regarded of the spiritual home of the Trust movement, plus it allows us to drop in on someone with recent TUFC connections; Kelvin Thomas. Kelvin is the current Chairman of Northampton Town Football Club, and with the club currently up for sale, I wonder what his thoughts are on knowing the Cobblers Trust are mobilising with the hope of gaining ownership ? Kelvin, as we’ll remember, worked closely in an advisory capacity with Thea. More than likely advising her who to pass the club on to, and quite possibly who to keep well away from TUFC ownership. 'The NTFC Supporters’ Trust are holding a meeting at the Park Inn by Radisson hotel in Northampton town centre on Sunday, March 10, starting at 1pm. The meeting is open to all, and among the topics under discussion will be a ‘community ownership model’ for the Cobblers', reports the local paper. While I somehow doubt that Kelvin has been impressed by any proposals for Trust ownership that he may have heard in the past, this does give an excuse for another TrustWatch visit to Northampton next month to check on progress. It was the emergence of the Northampton Supporters Trust that first alerted concerned football fans to the prospect of radical Left Wing groups targeting football clubs as a means of forwarding their political agenda. And sadly, those same concerns are more relevant than ever today. A movement born of Left Wing politics, and swiftly embraced and encouraged by Left Wing politicians on a National scale. Supporters Direct have always been more open about this than certain local sympathisers of the movement who attempt to deny the obvious. As Supporters Direct’s own website confesses, as it reflects on that first Supports Trust set up in Northampton: 'the Trust marked itself out as being distinct from normal supporters' clubs, in that from its inception it has had an inescapably political dimension'
And it wasn’t long before the idea was brought to the attention of the Blair government, who liked very much what they saw, and decided to help it along with plans to roll it out all over the country, as Supporters Direct confirm: 'it was the third report by the Government's 1999 Football Task Force, ‘Investing in the Community', that gave birth to SD and saw the Trust Movement become a force'.
The original political plan was the same then as it is now; to use football as a means to push a political agenda. Blair and Co were not thinking about football and what was best for football, but rather how they could use football as a means of achieving their political ends and their social agenda. That’s why it’s no surprise that Supporters Trusts continue to attract Socialists of all varieties like bees to a honey pot….or like Marxists to Highgate Cemetery. Can it just be the most massive of coincidences that our most committed TUST Militants also espouse the most hard line Left wing political views during online discussions ? The usual deniers will continue their determination to see nothing. But TrustWatch will continue to assist Torquay fans in resisting having the wool pulled over their eyes. Stand strong, Kelvin.

simonb What an insult to the TFF members and visitors to the site, simonb, . This is a wonderfully popular thread, that members and visitors keep coming back to time and again. And bear in mind that it spends a good deal of its existence not necessarily even on the opening page of this Section of the Forum. Add together the number of views of the threads on other topics (naturally excluding those given unfair compulsory prominence by the Administrators which keep them at the top of the pile) and you’ll find you have to add the views of every other topic going back several pages before you’d reach a combined ‘views’ total that matches the excess of 104,000 that have been drawn to our ongoing quest to bring the Trust Movement under the spotlight for some proper scrutiny. Remember the bad old days of unrelenting and often inaccurate pro-Trust propaganda that preoccupied the Forums, which not only spawned the requirement for the other side of the story to be voiced, but has also now shown the numbers eager to avail themselves to a source that provides them with an alternative to that old bland diet of constant pro-Trust spin. And every one of those 104,000 views being totally voluntary, as it’s a thread that everyone is entitled to completely ignore, as Chelston has just reminded us. Torquay fans dissatisfaction with the old One Party State providing ‘information’ on Trust issues has been born out by the continuing popularity of this thread. However much TUST bully boys smear the existence of this thread it with ‘kack’, or complain when a dissenting voice is allowed to be heard, the more determined will the bulk of TUFC fans be to head towards the nearest litter bin on being issued with their free TUST membership card .

Welcome back to TUSTWatch ! Sadly the new season doesn’t seem to be kicking off well for our TUST chums, who are struggling to cling onto any official presence within Plainmoor at all. They’ve come a cropper due to the ‘Ambassadorgate’ controversy, which most will be aware of. And congratulations to TFF, while not exactly having an ‘exclusive’ were certainly many hours ahead of the pack in bringing ‘Ambassadorgate to its readers. As for myself, the highlight of the Summer was getting a new mobile phone. Press a button and a camera looking in the opposite direction pops into action. Especially designed for the selfie generation no doubt. It’s just a pity I’m too old and ugly to enjoy it to the maximum. But it is a reminder of the origins and continued need for TUSTWatch as we embark on a new season. As the attacks on the club became more fevered, more outlandish, and with less regard for truth, the need for at least one source that could turn the lens the other way and put TUST, it’s motives and methods under the spotlight instead, became obvious. The Forums remain to an overwhelming extent a TUST run bubble. Owned, directed, and administered by mostly, if not all, TUST members. And as members of an organisation whose aim it is to impose a model that would exclude any and every non TUST member among our support from sharing in club ownership, no sudden embrace of diversity is likely. How many, or how easy was it for the club to appoint non TUST member Matchday Ambassadors last season ? Given that TUST were accused of muscling in against the wishes of another fans group in certain areas last season, I feel sure that any type of ‘closed shop’ agreement would have been instantly rejected by either TUST or the club. As too many examples of an ‘apartheid’ mindset really wouldn’t look good. And that’s why I’m confident there were no restrictions on who could become Matchday ambassadors last season, let alone Supporters Club members who didn’t also possess a TUST membership card. But it’s the lack of a basic knowledge of what the agreement was, that makes it all the more difficult for the ordinary fan to now know whether it needed scrapping, revising, and whether or not a TUST exclusivity clause existed or not. And so what we witness so far are ‘discussions’ that focus on the club, the naturally disappointed Matchday ambassadors, the tasks they performed, George Edwards, etc, etc. But with a glaringly obvious determination to ignore the elephant in the room, which is TUST. So you’ll be pleased to know that a TUSTWatch look at ‘Ambassadorgate’ that doesn’t conveniently miss out the all important TUST factor, will hopefully be along later

It's Friday, nearly the weekend. So let's, with the help of our friends on the Leninist left, remember there's room for something other than the serious stuff. And so before delving into ‘Ambassadorgate’, surely something a little more light hearted wouldn’t go amiss ? Like the first cuckoo of Spring, the first TUST Newsletter of a new season also fills the heart with joy, and provides the occasional chortle. And there’s a new one out today, which rjdgull has kindly linked to in the specially pinned thread, so do take a look at it. The format is much the same, as before, a quick nod to some plus points grouped together in one paragraph, before getting down to the main ‘moanfest’ So what are the highlights ? Well having talked about clinging on, it seems that poor old TUST are even struggling to cling onto their name ! I shall expect them to fully consult those with an obvious interest in the issue, such as TUSTWatch. TUST refer to ‘several suggestions for alternative names being proposed’. And I can well believe it ! I have several names for them, all eminently suitable …… but what’s this ? : ‘However, on reflection, the meeting agreed that this would be an expensive and time consuming exercise and now was not the time for such a fundamental change. It may be revisited at some stage in the future’.
Boo !! Hopes dashed straight away, but all TUSTWatchers should keep their suggestions safely for another day. Now I’ve got to admit, the TUST spin machine has always been a real favourite of mine, and one that I follow particularly closely. Overall it performs more than adequately, although failed to follow the basic rules earlier this week. As any tabloid Editor would explain, the timing is all important and you stagger the release of stories, maybe a few days apart. If you want to keep something in the news over a longer period or do particular damage to a politician for instance. Get it wrong, and it has the opposite effect. And so with ‘Ambassadorgate’. Hampered by the haphazard release that deadened its initial impact, but more importantly by getting it conflated with the more trivial ‘£1 for a teamsheet’ story, which really didn’t help at all. Not only have the moaning Militants taken a caning for the most part from ordinary fans for their perceived meanness, but introducing that side issue actually diluted the main ‘Ambassadorgate’ story which needed to be the prime and only focus. However, the ‘Mean Militants’ theme will have been drawn attention to again in the eyes of some, by none other than TUST themselves via their own newsletter. A ‘Shallow Pockets Special’ was the last thing they should have come up with just days after their ‘A whole pound for a teamsheet...outrageous !!’ complaint. So do take a look at the ‘Match / ball sponsorship’ section of their July newsletter, it’s a cracker. In essence there’d been a suggestion that members of the TUST board sponsor a matchball, but with the expense being met out of their own pockets. It appears that a hands thrown up in horror and ‘I’m not paying that’ response followed, paving the way for a good old slagging off of the clubs sponsorship charges. But what’s this, could the TUST Directors still be putting cash the clubs way by covering the cost of a most worthy gesture instead ? You’d think so by reading it…. ‘A few match tickets for use by the Torbay Holiday Helpers’ Network was suggested as a deserving cause. This group offer breaks to children and their families with serious illnesses or who have suffered bereavement’Now that’s a much better idea TUST Board members, pay for a few match tickets instead of the sponsorship. I salute you, you’ve gone up in my estimation, well done indeed to you…. Oops, but what’s this at the end of the sentence ? …. ‘It was agreed that a request should be made to TUFC to consider donating some match tickets’So the club covers the cost of the tickets, and TUST Directors wallets don’t get involved at all ? Love it. And they’ll find it difficult to top that in the August newsletter. Though I’m sure we all hope they’ll try.

It was a positive initiative by TUST to improve the matchday experience of fellow fans in line with national initiatives elsewhere which was well received. Scrapping it can only be a retrograde step. If the club wanted to do it differently, then a thanks chaps for your efforts would have been nice but the message was “we are not doing it this year.” Pretty sure there isn’t a queue of volunteers wanting to spend the hour before kick off greeting everyone coming through the turnstiles! What I would say is that the role could have been much improved if the club had communicated better and outlined procedures and areas of responsibilities so we didn’t have to react to certain situations on the hoof. With continued success on the pitch a new wave of fans are coming to Plainmoor and the Matchday Ambassadors have been a very useful first contact point in what can be a very daunting environment of 5000 raucous (in a good way) fans.

With everyone else doing it, it’s a shame TUFC no longer does. Volunteers naturally tend to come from TUST membership in the main.

'AMBASSADORGATE'rjdgull ‘Ambassadorgate’ is an interesting problem in its own right. I can’t judge on its rights and wrongs, or provide the solutions. But equally won’t shy away from mentioning one player central to the current dispute. The discussions over the past days have been hidebound by an apparent self imposed requirement to leave the TUST issue on the sidelines, in the hope that it can remain there unnoticed while every other aspect of the dispute is fair game for examination. While TUSTWatch is still permitted, let’s use it to buck the trend, and angle the spotlight where others won’t. So what becomes more conspicuous as each day goes on ?, by the lack of discussion into the ‘All TUST shortlist’ for Ambassador positions, and the current scrapping of the scheme ? Well let’s consider what obvious advantages there might be to not having Matchday Ambassadors compared to having them ? And frankly I’m struggling to think of any. While rectifying most of the practical difficulties that rjd mentions can surely easily fall within the remit of the stewards, the actual ‘meet and greet’ doesn’t. And given the stadium management and hospitality expertise that Gaming International and George Edwards have, you can be certain they recognise those important hours before, during, and after a match when long standing customers, and potential new customers and sponsors are in attendance. It’s prime networking time, and prime relationship building time. As rjd points out it’s: ‘an amazing opportunity just to talk football’ An opportunity for rjd and all the other TUST Ambassadors to speak to and discuss matters with a far wider range of people than just their own friends. And of course, not necessarily solely football, if you’ve a business head on your shoulders. Deny it all you like, but there will remain a perceived clear and obvious conflict of interest if those very Ambassadors are members of an organisation that constantly pushes and prioritises its desire to attract more corporate sponsors for itself. It would be a non issue with a Supporters club, but it’s a totally different kettle of fish with a TUST, reliant on that very same pool for those very same fish (Commercial entities with some interest in football). A supporters club, particularly under the club’s wing, isn’t competing to attract Commercial sponsorship. Surely it’s the initial decision, due to Harrop and others lack of commercial awareness, that beggars belief, rather than Edwards or whoever’s decision it is, to knock it on the head. And with regard to items distributed by the Ambassadors, mentioned elsewhere, while it’s probably not exactly accurate to describe it as TUST ‘merchandise’, maybe more a case of promotional items, as I suspect any badges would have to refer to TUST, and were not official TUFC badges, you have to acknowledge the some clubs would have regarded this as likely lost revenue for it’s club shop. No visit to the shop to buy a badge or a pen for the youngster as a memento of the match, as Junior is now already clutching a freebie. The clubs agreement in granting permission for this, even given the possible adverse effect on takings at the till at its own shop, was generous …. to the extent that a few £1 coins for team sheets now perhaps compensates for. I happened to take a look at the public pronouncements of possibly the week’s most high profile fan, thanks to a new venture. TUST member ? check. Season Ticket Holder ? check. And what words had he chosen at the end of May, as we celebrated promotion and a wonderful season ? ‘The biggest threat to our club’s existence is the owner’Now George Edwards doesn’t need you or me to tell him that if that’s the sort of stuff being put out on a public platform, it doesn’t take much imagination to guess what would be said in private conversations with a mass of other fans or potential customers if he got given an ambassadorial role. How nieve would you have to be to allow the conditions, whereby the very people most determined to paint you in as black a light as possible were granted by you, the very opportunity to do so to numerous members of the very fan base you rely on for your income ? And do you have the time, resources, and manpower to do the background checks to make absolutely certain that he, or those like him, do not become a TUST Matchday Ambassador ? George Edwards has inherited these problems. Blindingly obvious problems that should never have been set in train in the first place. Within TUST’s ranks there are clearly many with vastly more allegiance and loyalty to TUST than to Clarke Osborne’s TUFC. Edward’s recognises the sheer folly of allowing foxes potentially easy admittance to the Ambassadorial hen-house. While TUST provides shelter for the Militants, you cannot possibly expect George Edwards to sift through and identify just those of integrity such as rjdgull, who would carry out the Matchday Ambassador role in exemplary fashion. What evidence and guarantees can TUST provide to Mr.Edwards at their forthcoming meeting, that they have a means of carrying out this process themselves ? Until that happens I don’t see how anyone can blame George Edwards from applying a broad brush approach to dealing with the clear and obvious problems associated with drawing Matchday Ambassadors from a ‘TUST only’ pool. Until TUST takes firm steps regarding its Militants problem, difficulties like this, along with the bad feeling are likely to continue.

How sad it is that, whilst some who have limited free time do all they can to positively promote the football club, "Alpine Joe" seems to have all the free time in the world and wastes his time and his talent for wordsmithery insulting those people by posting absolute bullshit on this forum.
He persists with his complex web of lies and twisting of the truth, but does not have the courage to raise any concerns directly face to face. He knows full well that those he misrepresents and abuses online do not have the time or the energy to waste on silly internet spats - they would prefer to use their time doing something positive.
How sad that Rob went out of his way to rescue this site and its wealth of TUFC history, but now sees it used as a mouthpiece for relentless and groundless anti-TUST propaganda.
Joe, if you have issues with people, have the courtesy to tell them to their face rather than hiding behind a user name sneering. The people you repeatedly misrepresent are all approachable, friendly, reasonable people with a deep-rooted love of TUFC. Why are you frightened of meeting them?
If you think you are "providing balance against lefties", why do it on a forum that is resolutely apolitical? Why not do it on a forum that is avowedly left-wing?
Are you frightened you'd be banned or do you fear running in to someone who has as much free time as you do and is equally as entrenched in his views as you are?
The internet provides a wonderful platform for people to share common interests - a love for our football club and its wonderful history. What a shame it is also populated by keyboard wonkers like Alpine Joe. And what a shame that he chooses to pollute this forum which has traditionally been a home for friendly TUFC-based and particularly TUFC history-based discussion and has never sought to promote politics either left or right.

Are you frightened you'd be banned or do you fear running in to someone who has as much free time as you do and is equally as entrenched in his views as you are? Oh don't worry he frequents that habitat as well and the views expressed remain the same! Not sure absolutely it is a left-wing forum. Sure it is clear that some are, but I am not and there are a good number of others of a similar ilk and I don't feel unable to post what I think. I think like me Mr Alpine is a member of all 3 forums, and for me it is good that they are all different as that makes it more interesting. I have no idea about Mr Alpine's true feelings as I don't know him, although I always have the feeling that his posts are firmly tongue in cheek with irony and satire to the fore. Personally I need a strong TUST to represent me after being fleeced for £60 to buy a smart looking limited edition black shirt, only to find two months later they bring out three different coloured shirts of exactly the same design at a fraction of the price!
