I think most will agree more publicity is a good thing, and a broader appeal in the local community is essential. Posters elsewhere are tonight seemingly more convinced it's GI/Masters. If GI or anyone connected to GI is involved, I hope the broader appeal can be found as soon as possible.

If it is GI/Masters then the only positive thing is it may unite the fan base as opposed to the on going arguments about the merits of community ownership or otherwise. Until the identity of the new owners is known, then not much will be done, which may be the point of keeping things under wraps.

 On a day when football fans up and down the country are further bemused by the farcical goings on at Supporters Trust owned calamity club Newport County, I'm sure that Torquay United fans in particular, will have given a shudder and thought 'There but for the grace of Clarke Osborne go us'. Not that we should contentedly bask in the ambitious plans of our enthusiastic new owners, but it is worth remembering to value the sensible and business like management now starting out on the task of getting TUFC back into shape. Although not without sympathy for TUST considering their many recent disappointments, I'm still convinced that it's up to all their critical friends not to remain silent when observing they're clearly going wrong. Having so badly misjudged the levels of actual support they had, both among supporters and the wider Community, many thought that TUST was just as well to pack up and go home, particularly in the aftermath of the Pre-share issue debacle. Slated for poor judgement and even worse timing, the TUST top brass took a fair share of flak. I don't know whether G.I then took pity on them, but the offer to give them some form of continued usefulness, possibly by means of a Focus Group role, was a generous gesture from Clarke and the G.I lads. Now if Ipswich hadn't stepped in at the last minute and snatched Kieffer Moore from us, just as the big man was picking up his pen to sign on the dotted line at Plainmoor, and if Racine's knee hadn't come a cropper after an hour of his debut, then we'd probably be at least edging towards mid table, allowing all our thoughts to be dominated by longer term considerations and plans. It's not worked out that way, and a glance at any of the Forums indicates that the fans want the decks to be cleared and total focus and concentration to be put on the here and now of retaining our National League status. That involves Geoff Harrop planning with King Kev not only how best to go about preparing to be at our very best for the game at Southport on Saturday, but also leaving no stone unturned in the search for the right man to bolster our attack and increase our goal tally. Geoff has been given the important role of managing the development of a five year plan for the club, but that plan has to take a back seat. Fans understand and accept that, as they want the club to be focussing on the next five weeks, not five years, and the all consuming immediate battle against relegation.  Of course we all feel sorry for a Focus Group that hasn't be allotted a task to focus on. And 2017 has seen TUST floundering around aimlessly. But yesterday's TUST issued comment that 'I would like to take this opportunity to ask Riviera Stadium Limited to start the promised consultation process with all stakeholders at the earliest opportunity', once again demonstrates both poor judgement, and appalling timing. Totally out of step with the majority of fans who want single minded focus on avoiding relegation, and Geoff to let the '5 year Plan file' gather dust on the shelf, while he concentrates on playing, scouting, and staff issues. Being nagged by TUST to get involved in discussing issues that would be a clear distraction from what should be the overriding task at the moment, is the last thing we needed. If the Council want to talk among themselves about leaseholds or freeholds etc etc, then let them, but self proclaimed 'fans representatives' urging RSL to take their eye off the ball during these crucial last few weeks of the season, will only signify to fans that here is one Focus Group that has badly misfocused. Perhaps TUST could be sent to advise Newport County for the rest of the season, while allowing Torquay United to concentrate on avoiding relegation at the earliest opportunity.

In football terms, I think we can conclude that Mayoral F.C wouldn’t necessarily be the type of team who would return the ball to their opponents, had the latter put it out of play to hasten the treatment to an injured player. Rules and regulations can be interpreted differently, and while TUST know how they’d like to see ‘ACV’ applied, some have started to wonder whether in the Local Authority corridors of power, ‘Assisting Clarke’s Venture’ isn’t more apt, given the despondent tone of the latest update emanating from TUST HQ. Whether it be Minimum Wage, Gay marriage, trampling over parents rights to take their kids out of school for a week’s break, the ‘Asset of Community Value’ is just one further example from a list of legislation that is fundamentally un-Conservative and un-British, but which ably illustrates the almost full extent to which the ‘Heir to Blair’ was deadly serious about donning so many items of what surely would have been New Labour’s chosen clothes, that a leftward Corbynite shift to find some unoccupied ground, seemed all that was available to Labour Party members, as they observed that the Tory tanks had been parked decisively on what was formerly seen as Labour’s exclusively progressive lawn. What a proper Tory such as Sir Keith Joseph would have made of a Conservative Government dreaming up the ‘ACV’, I shudder to think. Norman Tebbit no doubt shook his head in disbelief as he witnessed a Conservative Government bring this in. And while I might prefer it if everyone, unprompted, would turn their back in disgust on monstrosities such as the ACV legislation, leaving it to fester unused on Parliament’s shelves; realistically we have to accept there will be those with sufficiently few scruples only too willing to shove this Government provided oar in between buyer and seller. Nor should we expect to see anything other from the average TUST member, than to see their organisation utilise every tool available to them for their advantage. As the tussle between Fans Representatives versus Community Representatives potentially hots up, the politicians may well continue to exploit their strong points, such as their greater understanding of legal interpretations to gain a crucial upper hand. It does make you wonder, while the TUST had their magnifying glass out and were studying the minutiae of their aerial photographs, whether there weren’t those who were well aware that TUSTForce1 was already being piloted badly off course, culminating in the bumpy landing they’re currently preparing their passengers for ? There were those who were already of the view that Aviation rules were being stretched, possibly beyond their permitted limit, in order to retain the current pilot. If 'Pre-Share Fiasco' is now to be followed up by ‘Lease Lunacy’, even louder murmourings concerning the need for a change of flight crew will be heard. Another crash landing for the already battered TUSTForce1 will only reinforce the belief of those who doubted it was ever properly airworthy from the beginning. While TUST members will naturally be disappointed to learn that their organisation has seemingly been outflanked over the ACV issue, it’s not a conclusive result just yet; although I inferred from the latest TUST update that they’re preparing their membership for defeat on this specific issue. However the ACV never has been the main event, was never the big prize, and so losing out in an early skirmish doesn’t necessarily signal your ultimate defeat. If nothing else, you’ll be more aware of just how cunning your opponent can be. It could be a while before the official result is in; will we learn that TUST had been outsmarted, or will there be indications that Russia hacked the ACV ? Who knows?…. but for now let TUST members take heed of Joan Armatrading’s words, as she sings us out:

Interesting to see Corbyn, Joseph and Tebbit mentioned - they do have socialistic traits in common. One is an International Socialst and the other two more towards National Socialists perhaps?

King Kev may have looked smart wearing his TUFC Nike training kit in the latest video, but will fans be buying that, or instead opting for the latest sportswear from TUST Leisure who have also secured a deal with Nike. Having seen a few items in their 'Militant Menswear' range, I can see it appealing to the young Corbynite Gull around town.  Politically correct to their fingertips, there's no way the TUST Leisure design team would forget the ladies, and a stylish shirt, also in white and revolutionary red, is available for them also. It's the shirt to be seen in when you picket those Council meetings on a warm Summers evening.  |

Regarding the big picture, we now know the club will have to be funded for the forseeable future by GI. Its very likely that the on field and off field misery and moaning could drag on for another year or two or maybe more with another relegation thrown in because nothing will surprise any of us. Whilst the club is at least being funded this buys the TUST some time and surely now would be the time to raise the subs of the 500 members from the minimal £2 to dare i say it £10 a month. If some TUST members fancied their chances of taking over the club last October then at least things would only look better with a much healthier bank balance behind them if and when the GI dream goes tits up. I am sure that this issue has been touched on before by Florida and Pete i seem to remember... and fell on deaf ears. There doesnt have to be any great statement of intent or target set for AJ to get his teeth into...lol just quietly raise those subs so that when the time comes you have more of a chance. I would love to hear if this issue has at least been considered by the TUST hierarchy
