Disappointing. I thought we started quite well today and but for a great save from their keeper, could've taken the lead. However, today did show what we have known for a while, this squad can't cope with the loss of key players. Stevens and then Howe, we haven't got the depth to replace them adequately (though thought jarvis did ok first half). I thought the two goals were conceded too easily, particularly the second. Unfortunately we looked tired and off the pace as the game wore on and cheltenham looked strong and dangerous going forward. Eunan in particular looked laboured today (or maybe distracted by transfer talk). At 2-0, the tie is not over and I'm sure that's what ling will be stressing to the players, however, its going to take an almighty effort to turn it round. Stating the obvious, we have to score first (and early) on Thursday and hope for the best. Shame the season didn't end at the start of April instead of May!!!

Would concur (unfortunately). Seems we have nothing left in the tank and as a result have been stuttering of late. Barring a miracle on Thursday evening, the fat lady has packed her bags, finished singing and is now saying a few prayers! Even so - great season and well done to all at the club - what might have been! Quite right Simon a fantastic season. But it makes it all so disappointing to have it in your grasp and then let it all slip through your fingers. As supporter who has seen the best and the worst over many seasons you realise, if your honest enough that is, that over the season whether a team is good enough or not to go the whole way and unfortunately I came to the conclusion some time a go that we just didnt have enough. Strangely I believed we did last year, we were good enough to go up but for whatever reason didn't turn up on the day. (I still would like to think I will be eating my words after Thursday mind) The stark truth is a financial one. We either couldnt afford to strengthen the squad or we didnt have the will, for whatever reason. Most of us could see it couldn't we? Obviously Lingy was set an agenda at the start of his tenure which I would guess was to achieve a safe league position without breaking the bank. Well he did that with considerabl ease but when it came to commiting to a wholly unexpected and serious promotion challenge he was presentesd with a huge dilema. Would he delve into the scant funds and take a gamble and push it on or stick with what he had. I also would hazard a guess, looking at our lack of transfer activity throughout the season that this seasons "challenge" has cost the club very little compared to Buckles attempt last year which has to be good for the long term future of the club. What rankers is the fact that Cheltenham, a similar sized club to ourselves were able to rest seven of there squad last weekend and still win at Argyle in preparation for today, and look what they had on their bench. For me that tells its own story in that they, along with all of our top of the table competition are wholly committed to gaining promotion t the next level. Our priorities I see as slightly different and that's why I have stated previously that the attitude was "Well if it happens it happens but not at any cost" All to play for on Thursday but can any of us see a positive result by three clear goals? Stranger things have happened but without Rene and a midfield struggling for form I just don't see where the goals will come from any more.

Cmon every one lets all join in with the moaning and groaning on here of how the season is now over, how we should have strengthen in March and that had Buckle been in charge with his transfer awareness we'd be in the box seat and not 2 nil down.
To those that are moaning I say, firstly I presume you can't be bothered to get off your ar*es and get to Plainmoor on Thursday like true supporters will be doing, and in that case SHUT UP !!! We are a small club punching above it's weight, our season is still alive in MAY !!! Yes the guys look tired but at least they are trying !!!
The club under Martin Ling is a work in progress and if we don't do the job on Thursday I'm sure we will come back a better team next season.
So give it a rest, be proud of what has been achieved this season and if you can't do that then I suggest you take a long walk off a short pier

Nobody is moaning or groaning in fact I'm wholly grateful we have a football league club. Ill be there on Thursday the TRUE supporter (here we go again) as you put it Bobby as I have through thick and thin for well over forty years. Surely I'm entitled to express a view and opinion as to why we appear to be stuttering and falling short at the last hurdle?

From my perspective (at the back of the nice new away stand at Whaddon Road):
- We were excellent in the first half. Just couldn't stick the ball in the onion bag. And it just so happens that Cheltenham did - Lathrope made the initial mistake, Nicho got dragged inside, and McGlashan had plenty of space. Morris in particular looked much better on the left than on the right in previous weeks. Jarvis did well as well. Howe shouldn't have started - his leg was strapped up during warm-up, and while I know he was injured anyway, that to me suggests either another problem or it was getting worse. I'd be surprised if he plays again this season
- But we were gutless in the second half - we came out a completely different side. Cheltenham were onto us straight away. Atieno looked like a guy who has got a contract extension for next year in his pocket and can't be arsed to get that extra little bit. Oastler had another poor game defensively. The change came too late and was the wrong decision - LRT has been good as a defensive addition but as an attacking addition, I don't see what he brings, as he's not technically good enough. I know McPhee isn't either but I think he would have been a better addition
Ah well. I don't feel as bad as last week, although the second half was very disappointing after the first. Cheltenham were no great shakes - assuming it is Crewe that win the other play-off, they won't be going up

Yep, didn't deserve to go in at half time one nil down but that is football and the second conceded was very soft. Not sure how the Jarvis header didn't go in straight after that though.... Odds are against us but all we can do is give it a good go, possibly with two strikers from the off and a early goal with the crowd behind us would see things change dramatically.

With a wafer (said in one's best Mr Creosote impression) thin squad it was always going to be an uphill struggle and when you you are down on your form, missing a key player through illness (Stevens) and your star striker is heavily strapped up during the warm up. Would have to agree with JamesB that he shouldn't have started. However, after Aiteno came on, the bench consisted of Jimmy Benefield, Carl Cliff-Brown, LRT and Chris McPhee (no slur on any player mentioned is intended). Praise should go to Cheltenham who were bigger and stronger than us (Burgess for example) and played the ball on the ground well. Mohamed was a mountain in attack, bloody quick and strong along with the winger who scored their first goal. Burgess had too much time for the second and if Jarvis had put that one away instead of hitting the post who know's......... I guess I must be a true fan as I was there today (and at Hereford last week) and will be there on Thursday. I will also be placing my ' early bird' season ticket soon.

I never felt there should even be such a thing as the play-offs, yes I know it was added on to add some extra excitement at the end of the season, but where you finished in the league should be the deciding factor if you go up or not.
Crewe finished a whole eleven points behind Southend and no one can ever convince me it would be right for them to go up instead of Southend. If you finish in the bottom relegation places then you go down and that’s it, you do not have any play-offs to give to a chance of staying up, so why should it be any different at the other end of the table.
Today’s result is a big disappointment but you only need to look at our recent form to know the result was not unexpected. While I for one will not give up hope until the final whistle on Thursday evening, I do not think we need to start thinking about booking any trip to Wembley.
On the whole it has been a good season for us, but once again being so close and failing at the final hurdle, leaves one feeling slightly deflated. I think we would do very well to even be near the top of the table next season as doing so three seasons in a row, is a feat not many clubs have ever achieved.
It’s for that reason I feel next season we won’t end up with the disappointment of just missing out on promotion. Maybe we will enjoy a good cup run instead and see some big club grace our ground and how fitting would that be with the new grandstand open and in use?
Being a fan of TUFC has and always will a roller coaster ride, sadly we have had to endure more downs than ups and yes it hurts once again at the end of this season, but we all know our next big up has to be not that far away.
For me Losing to Crawley in the FA cup when they then went and got Manchester United away, hurts far more than missing out on promotion this season. In saying that it hurts nearly as much that Crawley have gone up this season when it so nearly could have been us.
As I said its not all over yet and in football anything can happen, I know all our fans will cheer the boys on in the second leg and it might just take an early goal to turn this all around. If they score first then I do really believe it will be over.

Whatever your views on little Danny Stevens he sure was a miss today. Talk to any big 6' 4" defender at this level and he is just the type of player they fear most. Quick feet, unpredictable and on his day capable of making a defender back pedal in his own box something we sorely missed today. Most of our build up play was easily read, Tai failed to hold the ball up and it just needed a spark, someone to run at defenders and stretch and pull them about. Just hasn't happened and of late with Danny's form dropping off after Crawley away it has also coincided with our recent poor run. Love him or loath him he offers a bit of trickery and I hope he's fit for Thursday. Thursday is all or nowt with the latter as the strong favourite and I would much prefer to see a more radical and risky tactical line up, a complete change with maybe Morris in the middle and Danny and Eunan out wide. Much sooner go down trying to offensive and positive than continue with the current tactics which when played like today and recent weeks do not look very pleasing on the eye. Not very hopeful mind we have very little to scare the opposition with Howe out and only an option of Atenio or Mc Phee as replacement. Come on then lets have some predictions on playing formations/tactics, will Lingy dare to experiment , understandable when its going well you stick with it. How would you set up our starting line up in what is a nothing to lose match? And final score...... I will get the ball rolling . Team and tactics as today and those that finished the match I doubt Lingy will change his. formula. I would like to see some more imagination in the tactical side and switch a few around, Morris in the middle Jarvis just behind Atieno up front and maybe even Eunan (its not working for him or the team in the middle of the park and when did he last look a threat around the box) on the right and Danny on the left. Hey and how about this Maklin to terrorise the Cheltenham back line.... or is he still on the naughty step Score 2-1 we are 2 up and concede in injury time to lose the tie and that would just about opitomise and sum up our season. Oh sorry if it sounds like Im moaning Bobby T
