Well a bit bleary eyed this morning after getting home from the game in the early hours. Dont underestimate how well Barnet played. Speaking to a couple of Barnet fans they thought that was the best they had played for a while. They looked pretty good all over the pitch and hopefully will give Crawley a shock in a couple of weeks time. We may not be the most talented side in this division by a mile but the togetherness and knowing how to grind out results showed again last night. Totally proud of Martin Ling and the team !

Another three points, and great to see that Crawley and Shrewsbury dropped points too.
I'm not sure I agree with what some have said about yesterday's performance. We weren't fantastic, but this is the stage in the season when most teams and players have something to play for. Their direct style was effective, particularly in the first half, and in McLeod they have a striker who has troubled many a back line this season. It wasn't a great game from an aesthete's point of view, but how many games in League 2 involving teams fighting for their lives are?
I thought Ellis and Saah were pretty poor in the first half, and their habit of appealing for offsides instead of playing the ball was irritating. Saah was struggling to win headers and Ellis was guilty of overplaying things in dangerous areas. Both improved in the 2nd half. I wasn't impressed with Jarvis, who I thought was poor. Morris was much better when he came on (who, btw, acknowledged the welcome he received from the fans when he came on). Stevens was lively throughout and took his goal excellently, and although Enzo didn't rate Howe's contribution, I thought he held the line well and provided the sort of physical presence we have so often lacked in the past.
The evening at Underhill was rounded off nicely in the Red Lion when Martin Ling popped in for a pint after the game. It was nice to have the opportunity to congratulate him for the win and an excellent season. I've never considered it a requirement for a manager to be a 'nice guy' (and find some of the stuff leveled at Buckle in this regard pretty childish tbh), but you've got hand it to Ling...any bloke who leaves work for home at 11pm and is still happy to smile and pose for photographs with strangers - not requested by me I hasten to add! - is a top man.

agreed,watched many a promoted side get pummelled at plainmoor and walk away with a 1-0 win,nice to have the boot on the other foot for a change,clean sheet and nick one textbook soccer,quite happy if we do that in the remaining 540 minutes of the season

Great piece on the football league show last night on our boys, shows the real team spirit and management style which has carried us this far.... Yeah, just seen it on iPlayer. Couldn't see Rene Howe's plate, but glad to see that breakfast involved bagels, beans on toast and porridge instead of the greasy fry-ups witnessed on the FLS during Buckle's tenure. |
