Couldn't tell down the Popside/Family stand end but both substitutions were correct with Danny having (possibly) his worse game in a yellow shirt - shame on those that applauded.

We couldnt have been much worse first half yesterday. Port Vale were passing right through us and deservedly were one up. Some very frustrated fans around me yesterday moaning about the one up front at home tactics. We then move up a gear and push them back and grab those 3 points. This is a very different looking team compared to Leroys promotion side but another third place finish will do me nicely.

Agreed, I can not understand why, at this stage of the season, or any stage in fact, why fans risk knocking the confidence/upsetting their own players. This season has been fantastic so far and the whole squad need all our support to get to the finishing line...

Its pathetic that these idiots can criticise and jeer any of our squad. That was a tough game yesterday, we knew it would be, but to get on the backs of Morris and Danny publicly like that. We all knew that they were having poor games by recent standards bit that sort of abuse can knock the confidence of the whole squad. Now is not the time to be jeering and booing players we should be doing everything in our power to encourage and support at this crucial stage of the season.

Yes, but the only way to shut these muppets' mouths is if those around them ask them to desist. We wouldn't accept our own supporters cheering the opposition's goals, so why do we stand by and say nothing when they hurl abuse at Torquay players? If they want to do that, fine - let them pay to do it from the Away End.

the first 60 minutes left me asking a few questions, the last 30 minutes the answers were revealed,we were staring at defeat full on,then inspired substitutions by lingy turned this game on its head.No matter how good or bad we play,we have so much fight and spirit running through the squad,we are more than capable now of pulling off an immense feat in promotion, amazing times at tq1 Could not agree more about the team spirit. The substitutions did indeed turn the game and we looked capable of getting the better of any team when playing like that........so why don't we start with that line up every home game? Shame some fools decided to applaud the substitution of Morris in the way that they did as it very obviously upset the lad. Entirely agree about starting with that line-up every home game. The current starting formation usually results in everyone being pushed back behind the ball for long periods, and gives opponents the impetus and space to come forward in numbers and exert dangerous pressure. We are still winning games despite this, agreed, but the last few have been nerve-wracking affairs and I really do believe that a more offensive approach from the start would see teams off earlier and more comfortably.

"I don't want players of mine cheered off the pitch. He didn't have his best game and Ian would be the first to admit that, but he's had a good season and I don't want people turning against players when we're second in the league. " We all have to dig in and we stick together strongly. If one of ours gets hurt, we feel hurt by it. Let's stick together as a group, including the fans." Disgraceful that a manager of a team second in the league in our circumstances has to come out with this at this stage in the season. Shouldn't have to happen though, these halfwits should be told by the rest of us to keep their mouths shut if they can't offer anything supportive.

It wasn't just Morris getting stick. There were a group just along from where we were standing in the first half (Popside, towards the away end) that were having a go at Stevens pretty much every time he touched the ball, and also had a few pops at Lathrope and Eunan
I've never seen anything like that, and we're 2nd in the league. Unbelievable. There's nothing wrong with criticising your own players but this was absurd. Either were johnny-come-latelys (not guilty, your honour) with unreasonably high expectations for players of League 2 level (although they were having a go from almost the start of the game) or they were just out to cause trouble

Good weather. Good game. Three points. Decent steak. A few pints. Good company. Lots of football talk. Marvellous, isn't it?

I am confused here. We kept the same formation throughout. Atieno replaced Morris on the right and Jarvis replaced Stevens on the left. Later on, Rowe Turner replaced Jarvis, Jarvis replaced Atieno and Atieno replaced Howe.

Just got to agree with all the comments about Ian Morris. I managed a trip down from Lancs for this one and unfortunately one of the memories that keep coming back is of Morris clearly upset by our own fans. I've never been able to understand this - I did once remonstrate with someone at Macclesfield when he was giving an 18-year-old kid, Danny Mills, some loud abuse, as if the kid wasn't busting a gut to do well. Our trump card in this league might be the small, well-knit squad and I'm not surprised to see Lingy and others suggest criticism of one member could affect the team-spirit negatively - after all other players might be thinking 'who will they turn on next ?'. Ah well, rant over !

Entirely agree about starting with that line-up every home game. The current starting formation usually results in everyone being pushed back behind the ball for long periods, and gives opponents the impetus and space to come forward in numbers and exert dangerous pressure. I am confused here. We kept the same formation throughout. Atieno replaced Morris on the right and Jarvis replaced Stevens on the left. Later on, Rowe Turner replaced Jarvis, Jarvis replaced Atieno and Atieno replaced Howe. Well, those were the changes, true enough, however I did see a distinctly different formation. Atieno and Jarvis are basically inside-forwards (to use a term now regrettably obsolete) who are instinctively more adept at giving close support to Rene Howe than Morris or Stevens, who are out-and-out wingers. The fact that they often took up more central positions resulted in a lot more space down the wings for Oastler and Nicholson, and also Lathrope was able to get forward more as Port Vale were pegged back, even before they were reduced to ten men. The team spirit among the players is probably the best I have ever seen in a group of Torquay players, but that was not the only factor responsible for turning around Saturday's game. Equally important, for me, was that after an hour we suddenly saw an injection of positivity brought about by the changes. Other teams now come to Plainmoor knowing exactly how we are going to play from the start. The last two, Bristol Rovers and Port Vale, certainly did, and almost made us pay for the cautious style which we consistently adopt from the start. It was only when a change to a more expansive approach was made that we were able to get back into those games. Many people will think that I am criticising Mr Ling unfairly and stupidly, but actually I am not. He has performed a magnificent task at a small club with very limited resouces and deserves enormous credit for getting the team up to second in League 2. He is the manager of this club, and a very good one at that. My own playing and managerial experience (many years in the Hampshire League) are nothing in comparison. Despite that, I would venture the opinion that he is making a rod for his own back. Twenty one wins and counting is impressive indeed, but fifteen of these have been by a single goal and many have been backs-to-the-wall, nerve-wracking affairs. Nobody can deny that we play better when changes from the bench (recently Jarvis and Atieno) are made and a more attacking outlook is adopted. It is all too simplistic to say that the substitutions have been spot on. What I would say is that if the fresh players have brought about such an improvement, then surely they should be in the team from the start ?
