It you ever want to illustrate as to why the league is a marathon and not a sprint, look at the table last time Morecambe came down to Plainmoor, two months and ten games in. Our next opponents were top of the league, we were below Bristol Rovers and above Cheltenham! ;D This was the game in the middle of that barren spell that we looked the most likely to win but conceded the equaliser when Baldilocks was able to run two thirds the length of the pitch and then round Olejnik.
Baldilocks, aka Ellison has just extended his contract by a year and is their top scorer with 12 in all competitions and has scored in each of the last three games, the last one for some reason after coming off the bench! Other goal threats are their striker Carlton with seven and left back Wilson with six - another Nico? Former gull, Kieran Charnock is on loan to Fleetwood Town and will not feature.
Form-wise, Morecambe are still on a downer after their great start with just five points from the last six games although a run against Swindon, Accrington and Burton can't have been easy. Only three wins all season at home with their last success there, a decent enough result against Gillingham but way back at the end of October!
Looking at our side, the only question is to whom Ling will feel is better able to lead the line up front. Howe has now got ninety minutes under his belt together with a brace which will stand him in good stead and my thoughts are that he is more likely to score and should start. With a long trip this Saturday and home games on Tuesday and Saturday I think Atieno will be needed for the last third of the match and maybe this is where his pace can be most beneficial against tiring legs. A nice problem for a manager to have and one that hasn't really manifested itself much this season.
