Axxording to Ling the answers lie within the squad. Its rumoured that Ellis wants a transfer so it seems that we play the same back four from hereon in. Unfortunately having heard Ling's aftermatch interview he has morphed into Buckle and was spouting absolute claptrap. The 9-1 derfeat of the reserves painted a picture that all is not well within the squad and todays debacle seems to confirm that. Worrying times. First person to be shown the door should be Taylor who I assume is the defensive coach-totally clueless on the last few performances

Axxording to Ling the answers lie within the squad The problems may lie within the squad, but I don't know about the answers! The squad has conceded 14 goals in the last two games FFS!

The first thing to say is that we have not conceded 14 goals in the last 2 games. The reserve side is not the first time
I was keeping up with events on the BBC website and Ling's right in a way - the stats looked great. Over 60% possession until the last couple of minutes. And we had twice as many attempts on goal as them. The two goals at the end I assume were breakaway goals as we pressed for an equaliser - and we'd be celebrating a comeback if we'd got it. It's also worth pointing out that Hessethaler has said he thought we'd go on and win it. It clearly shows we weren't playing badly going forward. we've clearly created chances and scored 2 goals, which is something we didn't do against Bradford and something people were whining about too, so that is progress. The problem is we've seemingly sacrificed midfield bite to do it, and that that's something we've lacked all year
Obviously I wasn't there but this sounds more like an unfair unrepresentative scoreline and that we didn't take our chances - or rather, we did, but not enough of them. But no - let's sack everyone instead. We'll obviously get promoted with that attitude

It turned out to be an humiliating experience today but should we be surprised? Emphatically NO! This sort of result has been coming all season and our slide continues down the table. Our weaknesses have been obvious all season to all supporters who have gone to the matches. Indeed in virtually all my home match reports I have pointed out my concerns. Again today our back four were shocking with no leadership there. There is no sign of improvement either, it's not that we've got a long injury list with key players to come back. And what on earth is Ling up to and his assistant in training, we see the same dreadful mistakes week in and week out. And it's hardly great man-management in condemning players in public. No it's time he knuckled down to make the team a proper looking football league club and stop blaming players in public. He needs to shoulder the responsibilty, afterall it's his signings and team selections that are failing. It's hardly helping the players confidence and the club togetherness. The picture is stark, carry on like this and we will be back in the Conference. And that means THERE HAS TO BE CHANGES. If the players are not good enough we have to go into the loan market. So many of our players don't look good enough. Crowd today 2,582, over 300 from Gillingham who must have been very grateful for our charity, sponsors MOTM Danny Stevens. In the Family stand watching were Branston (how we desperately need him), Sean North and Chris Hargreaves.
The players came out for the first time from the end of the popular side at the away end. The old Grandstand is now missing seats and had a large digger next to it with a few workmen looking like Bob the Builder with their hard hats on. Torquay started quite brightly and you could argue played quite well in the first half. We created a few chances and their keeper saved well from Bodin and Mansell and Atieno had a goal disallowed for offside when 1-0 down. Danny Stevens was the pick of our players looking lively and creative. The trouble was that our defence was its usual indecisive self. After just 6 minutes the defence stood looking for offside to let Kuffour score from close range. Saah in particular should have done more. On 39 minutes a freefick from outside the box on their right was taken short. A low cross came over with our defenders and keeper stood watching for Kuffour to again score at close range. In between Gilliingham's two goals Olejnik pulled off a fine parried save.
After our half-time doom-and-gloom chat, incredibly Torquay scored two goals in the fist six minutes of the second half. First Robertson climbed up from an O'Kane corner and headed the ball in-off the post. Then a superb solo effort from Danny from a run and cross shot on the left that crept in the far post. Plainmoor was now rocking and excited! The trouble was 5 minutes later Gillingham was through and about to score and their player was brought down by O'Kane(?). Their penalty was dispatched well.
Halpin came on for the ineffective Atieno and Torquay had to again come from behind. From a promising Torquay attack our cross went behind our players to a Gillingham player and they broke away in their own half with Halpin chasing back. Halpin decided not to bring the player down from behind and Gillingham went on to score. On 89 minutes the scoreline became an embarrassment when Olejnik was lobbed for their fifth. Out poured many home supporters but I stayed and suffered the final minutes. There was a nice sporting moment when ex-Gull Kuffour was given a good ovation from home supporters when substituted.
After this latest horror show I will consider carefully if I want to subject myself thorugh more of this nightmare. I want to see some positive action being taken by those at the top. Ling in particular needs to sort things out NOW. Listening to his post match interview he still does not see it as a crisis. It all seems too casual for my liking.

The first thing to say is that we have not conceded 14 goals in the last 2 games. The reserve side is not the first time The first team may have 'only' conceded 6 in its last two games, true, but the squad has conceded 14 in its last two games. Football managers aren't judged on reserve team results, but a team that ships 9 goals can be. As for the stats, there is only one stat that matters - and that's the result at the end of the game.

Well, I was there and to be fair, the scoreline does look to flatter the Gills a bit. We actually started quite brightly with a 4-4-2 that did create more chances than the last 5 or 6 games. Shame that our strikers seem so out of touch with the rest of the team. I have been quick enough to complain about Danny so kudos to him for being about the only bright spot in the team today. For gods sake keep him on the left wing where he is best, and give him the ball where he can run at defenders... The first goal was the defence trying to play the offside trap and failing, for Jo to slip the ball in. 2nd goal Jo stole in at the back post from a dead ball and was not spotted by anyone. Half time and a rethink needed. Back to 2-1 with a powerful Robbo header and followed up by a classy goal from Danny for 2 all. We seemed to be playing better, and then give ourselves an uphill fight by giving away a penalty on Jo. I thought it was Nico though the BBC site says Eunan. 4th looked to be a breakaway with most of our players caught upfield. 5th was probably a mishit cross that dipped over Bobby and into the far top corner. A crap result but, IMO, a better performance than either Cheltenham or Rotherham. At least we looked like creating something although the front two were pretty woeful. So TBH was Eunan's passing and Nico kept getting caught out by players getting in behind him too often. Danny was sold short (no pun intended) too many times in the game but still deserved MoM

i did pre-warn that gillingham were in iffy form so watch out.An average gillingham side, because thats all they are, showed us the art of finishing and how to win when not playing brilliantly. We look a team short on almost everything,a defence that is nothing short of laughable,a midfield that goes missing and an attack short on ideas.I take no positives from this extremely clueless performance. The truth being no quality, the one recent shining light bodin was absolutely dreadful today,he didnt chase the ball, didnt jump for the ball, infact he did bo-diddly,sadly he wasnt alone, there were many.Stevens was my man of the match for us,which really sums up this current batch,he hasnt been a regular for obvious reasons, but still outshone all apart from our goalie. And just to add salt to the wounds joe kuffour pops two in the onion bag for them.Ireally dont know where ling starts, but he has a massive job on his hands. It isnt inconcievable, that by the time argyle come here, they may well be above us in the league.Another frigtening thought,we are 35 points from safety, where they are coming from god only knows

Oh dear. Unsurprisingly I am struggling, despite trying, to pick anything positive out of today's match! Ling really has his work cut out to turn round this slide down the table. Defensively we were woeful, from where I was stood today, Saah was getting a lot of abuse. I think he is being made something of a scapegoat, I didn't feel he was any worse than anybody else today. The back four as a unit is just not working. The number of balls into our box which nobody was attacking/clearing was frightening. We made a very average (for that is what they were) Gillingahm side look like world beaters, a team that looked like they might score everytime they went forward. Ling says he is happy with the nucleus of the squad, I say he needs to bring in a big, experienced, passionate centre half who is going to bark orders and organise things at the back, something which is sadly lacking. When we concede the back four all look at each other as if for answers and nobody can give them! At times we were OK going forward today, Danny's goal was well worked and executed, but that will count for nothing if we can not do the basics. Just as worrying today was the lack of options on the bench. You look to a substitution to change the game and i am afraid there was nobody sat on the bench who was going to come on and change the game for us. The squad is threadbare and some of the players are maybe just not league standard. The players looked almost frightened to have the ball at times today, particularly towards the end of the game, confidence is obviously low and we are in danger of this slide down the table becoming the trend for the season. The players will continue to get my support, but reinforcements are needed: a centre half and a new striker at the very least. The loan market is there. Why wait?

the o/s now has a page dedicated to mark ellis being given a chance to sort our defence out, sorry but he doesnt cut the mustard imho either. His game is mistake prone, and he is not the answer.Ling needs to listen to us fans now,the defence is a shocker in more than one position, get a couple of good pros in who if nothing else get the basics right, its not rocket science, just openly obvious to all of us including lingy

Truly dreadful and somewhat depressing today. Although we looked okay going forward, we will literally need to score 3 or 4 to get any points with the state of our defence. Saah is clueless, and Robbo is not good enough to cover for him. It is all very well for Ditmar to say that the score flattered Gills; I actually think they took their foot off the pedal!
We have good players sprinkled through the first 11, but a chain is only as strong as its weakest links. Saah and Atieno are not good enough for league football.

True.whilst i agree we have a few good players, they are in almost equal amounts as some dross we have.Seeing halpin and mcphee warming up during the match did not exactly fill me with enthusiasm to be honest, but there are more, lots of big decisions to be made shortly i think

There lies the problem - we have too many players who are not good enough for league football. Sorry to harp on about Mcphee but the fact that he scored quite a few goals last year still doesn't make him good enough for league 2. He is lacking in technique and ability. I am afraid our squad is not strong enough. The most frightening thing seems to be that this appears to be lost on our manager. Whilst he stresses there is money available for loan signings he refuses to use it. The time to address the issue is now - not when we have lost the next half dozen games and are bottom.

Well that was fairly pathetic !!! Only players to come out of that with any merit were Danny Stevens and Manse in my eyes. Defensively we are shocking, what does Shaun Taylor coah them ?? Defenders are meant to mark players not stand 5-6 yards off them !!! The first two goals were poor and there is NO general in there !! Does Saah or Robbo actually bark orders ?? NO way !! Lings sez it is not a crisis well come mid november it may well be !!! There is a man who has faith in his bench, we are 3-2 down then 4-2 down and he brings on a young kid learning his trade, he obviously doesn't feel any of the other subs could have made a difference !! Is Ellis the answer NO not in my eyes, his is a traditional centre half, big bruising and prone to errors and needs a palyer alongside him to cover and we haven't got this. What a shame to see Hargreaves signing books he could have been ideal as a sweeper .................... We need League 2 personnel not BSP journeymen !!! Loans can only be good for the team but they have to be right. We need a poacher, a Benyon, along with a younger Pickler and then that will give us a fighting chance. An apology from the mangement or players would have been nice but am i asking for tooooo much !!! Best ground in the BSP next year maybe
