Last time out, Ling played mainly youth teamers with the predictable 8-2 thrashing against Crawley. Although, a bit more local, it is still away and the question is, should players like Ellis, LRT, Leadbitter get some time out in the middle or should the focus be solely on Saturday's match against Gillingham?
At the end of the day, without a settled starting XI and only Bodin on loan, most of the front line twenty in the squad are appearing at some point in first team matches and the value of this competition has not been great for us this year......
Cheltenham looked a good side at Plainmoor and this will at least show how much strength in depth they have got.

To be quite honest there is no need to play such a young side. Yes those who are on the bench and a couple of young ones but give some of the first team games too like atieno, stevens a go as well. no worries about playing three games in a week. we lost at shrewsbury and bradford and they both had hard midweek matches when we were supposed to be fresh...

United Reserves (4-4-2): Rice; Leadbitter, Ellis, Rowe-Turner, Quinn; Macklin, Yeoman, Kudi, Halpin; Spear, Thompson.

From what I can make out, we went in 7-1 down at half time, currently 8-1 at the moment.

Full Time: We lost 9-1, I think it was something like 7-1 around the half hour mark. A big difference from last year but we are playing a lot more youth teamers and it really is men against boys!
Would you bring any of that lot into our side on Saturday?

Looks like thats only 3 youth team? (Quinn, Kudi, Thompson) If so, the others are hardly going to be pushing for a starting place on Saturday

I know this is a reserve match but that scorline is embarrasing especially with most of our "fringe" players in the team.
I suppose this is the future with all the financial cut backs. If we do get a bad run of injuries and suspensions and are forced in to playing some of that lot who purport and aspire to be professional footballers I fear the worst. To me it says a lot about the squad as a whole and its what we have to expect when trying to make budget cuts and do things on the cheap.

dear dear dear, what a calamity, but are we surprised? i and many others have said we have no quality, think this nail on proves it.And from the way lingy is talking, some of this lot will be shown the door very shortly, good. He seems extremely upset by all accounts, and who can blame him, some of this shower will get first team opportunities through injury and suspension, god help us,thats all i can say

"Also Martin Rice, who has let in 17 goals in two games, and I can honestly say he hasn't been at fault for any one of the goals, and that just proves how bad the defending has been".
I trust this will stop the 'Ellis must be in the team' posts!

I trust this will stop the ' Ellis must be in the team' posts! It may do Chelston but any one can see we need to strengthen this department and Ellis is the only realistic alternative and if he were picked it would at least send out the message that perhaps Brian Sah isnt an automatic starter. Not good when your fringe players are not pushing the team hard for a start. Not an ideal scenario is it?

I would argue that if Ellis is in the back 4 on the end of a 9 - 1 drubbing then should he be in the first team at anyone's expense? More so if he was in the Crawley drubbing as well. It's a good job were not looking towards the reserves to bail us out - "Iceberg on the starboard bow" * * apologies if it was the port side.

Saying Ellis should be in the team now after this is daft. So we should just make a change for change's sake? The only message it would send out is that Ling is barking mad

This was 'only' a reserve game, but it's a worry that a defence comprising Ellis, Rowe-Turner, Leadbitter and Rice shipped 9 goals! It's not exactly inconceivable that those guys could end up turning out for the first XI in the event of a suspension/injury or three I think we have our answer as to why Saah is keeping his place...but does that mean he's good enough?

i saw the saah ellis combination at the dagenham game, hmmm, not very good, and individually error prone as hell, but they are not alone
