Whilst Meerkat does spout some twaddle, he does occasionally say something valid. Capitulation is probably a good description of today (apart from a 10 minute spell when we were already 3 down). Singling out McPhee is harsh, as no one played well in the first half and he spent most of his time trying to contain the Crawley left winger and couldnt get forward. At least he gave Joe Oastler a bit more assistance than he usually gets.
hullgull (simon?) the signs are not ok at the minute. We are 4 matches in with 7 points that we have gained from what I would say was 80 minutes of playing well (last 25 against Burton and first 45 against Bristol and about 10 today. We were poor against Aldershot (i still cant work out how we came away with all 3 points there) and even poorer today (mostly). That doesnt even make a whole match so far.
How long do we wait till shaking things up? I dont know but the players that havnt performed so far need to look at being sat on the bench soon to give others a chance to show what they can do. I would seriously look at giving Ellis a run of 5 or 6 games, despite my serious reservations on his choice of positioning and lapses in concentration as Saah does seem off the speed. The one thing we lack anywhere on the pitch at the minute is speed, so Macklin should also be given a run on the right to at least give the strikers something to work with in the box. It might be worth trying Stevens on the left as being right footed, cutting in from the wing will suit him better angle wise. What will not work is doing nothing or giving the replacements a 15 minute run out as a sub and then using the same starting 11 in the next match. Players cant get into a game for the last 15, especially if we're not playing well.

hey ditmar, some valid points, more so giving ellis a run in the side, but we will improve as the season progresses am sure about that, its definetly not panic stations, far from it,maybe i am an optimist, but thats me all over ha ha,i just get wound up when we are branded a team of NO HOPERS,we all have to remain positive, for one personally i have every confidence in martin ling, however ditmar your right in what your saying about the subs only getting 15 minutes or so,then starting with the same 11 next match, now thats something that has to be addressed.....simon

What actually is a "fuckwit man" - Is it some sort of tribal worshipping being or something. Now that Merson has disappeared I suppose there is always one prat trying to take his place. Ditmar seemed to have summed it up well. I am not arguing with our points haul so far - very good. I admit to being totally wrong ie I thought we would have one point by now. However as he says the signs appear less encouraging as we seem to be spending long periods of games being completely hopeless. Last year Ellis was by all accounts attracting the attention of bigger clubs - ok he might not be the finished article but its time he was back in the team at the expense of Saah who is far too lightweight. I am not blaming Mcphee for the defeat, but I have given up forking out £70 odd quid every home match and a three hour drive to watch players of his,Rice and Saah's standard. Thats my perogative so if people want to slag me off for it feel free. Water off a ducks back, I can assure you. I don't normally bet against my own team but money is money. Torquay's price was deflated due to their winning the last two games but of course that did not tell the whole picture after Torquays clueless effort at Aldershot. Given that we have players who are probably not 100% fit, our inept defence, lack of any wingers - it made the fat boys team an outstanding bet. Got to say I was rubbing my hands when the lineup's were announced - I was hoping "nanny" would play. Anyway must dash - I'm of to draw from my betfair account.

Disappointing but not an unexpected result and to be fair 3 - 1 was flattering to us. Crawley have to be one of the best sides to play at the Stadium de Plainmoor in recent years and they did it without Akindi and Tubbs! Fair to say they should walk this league and Evans will then build a squad for League 1, Championship etc. Unless the money runs out.
How do they attract quality players with crowds similar to us?
Right from the off they were in the Torquay faces and didn't give us time to move. Whenever a Crawley player hit/pumped/belted/passed the ball it went straight to one of their players, aided by some poor defending/ball watching/player watching/day dreaming.
We couldn't get our wingers to wing and it was no surprise that Lingy pulled them off at half-time. I don't blame McPhee as he isn't a proper winger. Disappointed in Morris but I'm sure he'll come good.
Having only seen the Burton and Crawley games, I would have to admit to being a tad disappointed with Saah. Certainly missed Branston yesterday but then Thomas and Bartlett were a handful all afternoon.
Still, a nice curry certainly brightened up the day ;D

Crewe are interested in Mark Ellis and if they make an offer he will go, he`s been waiting patiently for 4 years+ now and still only makes the bench when we and he knows that he is a better player and option than Saah and Robbo! Saah is conference level and no higher, I made a point a couple of games ago about him being club captain and not many agreed with me, well I`d like to hear from these people now and would hope they have the courage to admit they were wrong! Also did anyone notice how much better Eunan played when Billy came on? Morris hasn`t impressed me in any way and I can`t understand why McPhee is playing when he has his mind on other things!

Aussie, if you honestly think he's a better player than Robbo then you are kidding yourself. He loses concentration too often to be consistent. He may have more potential but he's now getting a bit too old to keep being given the tag "promising youngster" and overlooking basic errors

Anyway I`d like to see Mark and Robbo at the back and Saah get dropped!

Certainly missed Branston yesterday but then Thomas and Bartlett were a handful all afternoon. Still, a nice curry certainly brightened up the day ;D What day wouldn't be brightened up by a curry? Having seen the Bristol Rovers and Aldershot games I was quite impressed by Saah. We defended stoutly and calmly at Aldershot on Tuesday and he played his part in that. It's just one of those things that he had two home games against two very good pairs of strikers. Give him a little time. He was good enough against higher opposition in pre-season wasn't he. As for the Robbo V Ellis debate. I think they both have good points and bad points. Robbo is a bit calmer and less error prone, while Mark edges it on strength and his attacking ability at set pieces. All I can say is that Paul Buckle and Martin Ling, who are both professional managers, seem to favour Robbo over Ellis. I know this won't mean a lot to our resident Australian forker but it has to counted for something. I don't like to admit it but Jabba the Hut is a very good manager and he's built a very decent team. Good luck to them but I'll enjoy it when the money runs out and they drop back down the leagues. 202 away fans is pitiful. They're only attracting players because of the money they're offering and how they're keeping within the percentages I have no idea. Perhaps player's wages are still only 69% of Steve Evan's combined food and drink allowance. If he carries on like this he'll wake up in the morning and eat his fingers thinking they are sausages.

talking too a couple of crawley fans at the game yesterday, they told me their late chairman left 4 million quid to team build for the next few seasons,so it seems they wont be one or two season wonders as some suspect. That is a heck of a lot of money for clubs our size, and crawleys performance yesterday indicates they are on the march, the capped wage structure makes me wonder how they spend so much, but unless we find out differently,we will have to grin and bare there onwards march through the leagues. But we know eventually the cow will run out of milk, and rushden mark 2 will appear over the horizon, but for now its all onwards and upwards for them

To be fair Martin hasn`t seen Mark play in a competitive league fixture yet so it isn`t quite accurate to state both managers favour Robbo over Mark. I feel that Mark just edges it over Robbo but that is personal opinion, as far as Buckle goes with regards to Mark being selected well that had f**k all to do with footballing ability as we all know!

Not really sure why people are getting so upset. Maybe it's the realisation that there are better teams than us the division this season, but I think most of knew that didn't we? Didn't we?
Judging by the pre-match comments on here, many of us realised that a game against our Gatwick-based nemesis was the last thing we needed after three tough games on the road and a poor second half at Aldershot. To concede three was obviously a blow, but a defeat by a margin of two goals was not something I viewed as in any way inconceivable before 3pm yesterday.
I was at the Mem and the Rec, and was unconvinced by Saah. Someone said that he always seems to react to events rather than anticipate them, and I would agree with that. It's early on in the season and perhaps he just needs to get match fit, but he's certainly no Branston. I'm not sure about Ellis. He seems a nice bloke and he plays his heart out, but that's no substitute for quality. His lack of concentration and ensuing blunders have irritated the hell out of me in the past. Let's hope he can take his chance when he next gets it.
