Coupled with coming back to gain a point last week, this Ling side seems able to get results that we have let slip time and again and his tenure here is starting to look very promising. It certainly is. Only two games gone, but I was very impressed with how well we held out yesterday. If these are habits we can develop then it bodes very well indeed

If you will go having a pint of creme de menthe before lunch, that is what will happen.

Aldershot away on Tuesday and Creepy Crawley next Saturday at Plainmoor. Money bags Crawley have had a decent start and will want to prove their worth at our place. I would consider us the underdogs for this one. Shots have had a mixed start to their season after an encouraging away win at Bradford and losing at home to Northhampton they will be wanting to put that right on Tuesday. A tough start to our season with games coming thick and fast.

Bucklandgull came running over to me at halftime (Ok Bucklandgull running might have been a slight exaggeration lol ) to tell me the boys were winning up at Rovers by two goals to nil. While I felt before the game that is one a game there for us to win and we should go there with no fear at all, but still I was a bit surprised we had taken that two goal halftime lead.
Was so pleased to learn once again from Bucklandgull that we did hold on and win the game and it was then a big warm smile came over my face as I imagined what the look on Buckles face was. With all the money he has had to put a team together at Rovers, you would have expected him to win what was Rovers first home game, even more so against a team he raided and took what was thought the best players.
I think so much credit has to be given to our new manager, the poor bloke must have wondered why he decided to join Torquay United, after all the things that were written about him on both fans forums.
He has had to put a team together in double quick time and so far it looks to me, he has put a very good squad together and one that is not going to be easy to beat. Is the key the fact that by reading the reports of the matches so far, I learn he is playing the players in their best and chosen positions?
I have never felt it was rocket science that to get the best out of any player, you play him where it has been proven he plays best. That was something Buckle never got to grips with and how many times did we see a Buckle team with players playing in positions they really were unconformable playing in.
Yes its early days and we have a whole lot of matches in front of us and we must not get too carried away, but I’m not sure there will be a sweeter victory this season, but then in saying that, beating Crawley next Saturday must come pretty close.

Very enjoyable day out in the company of Stu and young James.
Traffic up slow as to be expected. At least we didn't have Victor Meldrew in the car moaning about it - although the flipside of that was that we didn't have any prog rock CDs to play either.
We left Torquay at 11 and were surprised to see people still waiting for the coaches at the Penn Inn. We got there in plenty of time, but I think some of the coaches cut it a bit fine. We managed to navigate our way out of Bristol after without getting stuck in traffic - more by luck than judgment.
Pasty was o.k. but I'm not sure I would be quite as enthusiastic as some. It was the kind of pasty that would barely trouble a vegetarian - but the pastry was good which is important.
I did love Rob's t-shirt. Sorry I can't make it to your "home" away game for another look.
It was a very entertaining game. On the one hand, we could easily have lost it 3-2 as we came under some severe pressure, but with three clear-cut chances going begging it could just as easily have been a 5-1 drubbing.
Manse is reveling in a box-to-box midfield role. Reminds me of Paul Trollope - the man who started the merry-go-round by getting sacked. O'Kane is now 100% a central midfield player - which puts an end to last season's " where do we fit him in" game. The man is sheer quality - but he did leave us open once or twice by dallying too long on the ball.
Howe and Atieno were excellent. I was happy as soon as I heard we had signed Howe and really liked the look of him the first time I saw him. I must admit that I was a little more sceptical about Atieno. I was not impressed by his CV nor by my first sighting of him at Tivvy - although that match thread will show that I excused his performance through "trialist's over-enthusiasm". He looked the part yesterday.
A superb performance and a great result. Too early to get too carried away, but I hope that those who vented their bile at the appointment of Ling are mellowing just a little now.

Very enjoyable day out in the company of Stu and young James. At my instigation we decided not to stand too far upfield because we feared that was where the anti-Buckle, anti-Ling, anti-The World in General Brigade might stand to vent their collective spleens at the home dug-out. The sight of the three of you didn't quite confirm my theory (although Jon has his moments) and as for the people in front of us..... My second thought was as to the whereabouts of the Pie Eater. I think he would have approved of Andel's cafe on Hotwell Road. And, talking of dug outs on that side of The Mem, I was at a Rovers v Brentford game once when Rovers had moved the away dug-out to in front of where your threesome was standing to piss off Martin Allen. Priceless.

Priceless win and even better coming with the cringeworthy feature on the football league show featuring Paul Chuckle walking into a coffee shop. Thats football, Thats football he yelped at the end saying he was "delighted" - yes Paul of course you were. Poor ref, missed chances, should have had a penalty - I actually expected him to come out with his "punching above our weight line" Personally I think he lost them the game - leaving Zebroski and Kuffour out did us a big favour. He has a decent forward line but his defence looks shot to pieces and in Beavis he has an accident waiting to happen between the sticks and he duly cocked up big style for the second goal. Rovers goal should not have stood either. A blatant foul throw as the thrower had his foot in the air when he took it.

The Judas flag. Oh yes, what an embarrassment to the club, its fans and its staff. Lets hope the idiot who took it along keeps it well away from the return game...

It would have been more tasteful and witty they way the Burnley fans dealt with Owen Coyle. Their banner said "He's not the messiah, he a very naughty boy!" lol It's important to keep a sense of humour and a sense of perspective
