How far do you want to take it? There are plenty of clubs smaller than Darlo that have gone under in recent years without much of a fuss being made - Fisher, Ilkeston, Newcastle Blue Star, Runcorn, Dawlish. It's a difficult one, because yes, these clubs each have a valid history, but you have to question whether it really matters an awful lot in the grand scheme of things, because they never made an impact outside of a very small area or number of people In "the grand scheme of things" no sport, even football, really matters at all, does it? In observing human behaviour, the effect football clubs have on people's emotions is fascinating. You see the bad in the constant bleating, moaning and failure to grasp reality in certain supporters, magnified hugely by message boards and radio phone-ins. But you really see the good when fans, including those who go nowhere near message boards or phone-ins, rally to the cause in times of trouble and show the old "Dunkirk spirit". In cynical times it is news, and good news at that, when you really see the good side of people. How far do you want to take it? I'd say that troubles at teams playing in national leagues is national news, teams playing in regional leagues is regional news, and teams playing in local leagues is local news. A rough rule of thumb, but not far off the truth.
