B****cks - typed out an extended match report but lost it! Anyway - in brief, agree with DvN. A game of two halves - the first of pure inspiration, the second of perspiration - and that was what carried us over the line. I can only hope that all the scouts came down in a minibus to see Eunan and broke-down and only got to see the second half when he was clearly knackered and well marked! If they had seen the first half then they would be already on the phones to their employers to tell them to sign him up ASAP! He will make his next club some really good money, he really is the real deal. If we finish above Crewe then I think that will mean us being in a play-off spot. A great win for morale and all credit to the team and Bucks. I'm not really bothered~unless we have some really good sell-on clauses in place~how much his next club sell him for...i'm bothered about how much we sell him for!

Once again, praise to the United fans. Every side of the ground did their bit to create another great atmosphere. There has been much unfair criticism on here in the past as far as the home fans are concerned. It has mostly come from those who can only get to away games and seldom home games. Our away support is wonderful and they do often out sing the home fans at away games, how many times have we who are sat at home listening to the game on the radio, heard those yellow chants coming over loud and clear. We have discussed many times the reason that is often the case and one main reason was because we do have nearly all of our fans in the one stand together. There are other factors as well such as the whole away day out experience that the actual match just becomes a part of, unlike home fans that live locally where the match is really all there is for most. Did you hear any Crewe fans singing coming over those airways listening at home on the radio? well I would not have thought so as they only sung one chant when they scored. I expect part of the reason is they had nothing to sing about in the firat half as they watched their team torn apart and go two goals behind. I asked the other day if we took the FA Cup effect out of the home game and the drummer, what other factors would there be to help create the perfect product still that fans would want to be a part of. I also said that in my view generating an atmosphere is a two way thing between the fans and the players and both have a big part to play. The question has to be how come such a low number of TUFC fans, were still able to generate such a great atmosphere like we did last night. If Paul Buckle had sent out onto the pitch last night a very negative formation and one like we saw against Oxford for most of the match, Plainmoor would have been a different place last night. Against Oxford we once again were content to knock the ball amount ourselves on the halfway line and then try and play the ball to the lone figure of Benyon who always had his back to goal and as a result lost the ball most times. Such football especially for any home fans who want to see their team get at the away team from the off, is frustrating to watch, uninspiring and won’t get the fans singing at all. The only time the Plainmoor crowd came a live and really got behind the team against Oxford was when the change in formation was made and we became an attacking force rather than one looking more like the away team. In last night’s game after a bit of a slow start, we went on attack after a attack, getting stuck in all over the pitch and if we did lose the ball, we worked dammed hard to get it back again. It’s that approach to the game, that sort of football that gets fans excited and singing and then getting fully behind the team. Play negative football, keep losing the ball by poor passing and fans are not going to be happy as they after all paid to come and watch the game and wanted to watch their own team at least look like they wanted to win the match. Dave the gull is right I’m afraid; it really is far more about the football on the pitch you dish up for home fans that will have a positive or negative effect on home gates and the atmosphere inside the ground.

When exactly did you think we went to one up front? just because Crewe came out better in the second half, probably after a rocket up the ar*e, and played better football it doesn't mean we went to 1 up front. . But we did play on up front it the second half with Zebs moving out on the wing didn’t we? That’s how I saw it and Ant as well when we discussed the match on the way home in his car. He took me over to Plainmoor but was not on the Popside as the company he now works for has a box for staff members. The little bugger told me the cottage pie they were served up at half time was lovely and then told me (he must have explained he came to the game with me) they said I could have used the box as well had they known. On a side note he thought Leigh popped into the box for a short while, but not having met him before was not 100% sure it was him.

I think there is more to it than that as the fans and the players have a mutualistic symbiotic relationship whereby they can feed off each other for support. Sure, the fans will get going if attractive football is being play and /or goal(s) are being scored but when we did flag last night a chant of "Yellow Army" or "Come On Torquay" was started to will the players on to get the result we all wanted!
I also think that crowd behaviour is habit forming and maybe the success of the FA Cup and the great atmosphere at that game means that fans would want to try to and even have expectations of replicating that environment as that is the match day experience whereby the fan can maximise their enjoyment and feel they can contribute to the team effort as the twelfth man and literally will the team on to victory!

Right onto the formation. Some people have it down as a simple 4-4-2, however I would disagree with that, it’s more of a 4-4-0-1-1, if you get my drift. What I am saying is that when Zebs plays as the 1 he plays off of Benyon (as opposed to playing alongside Benyon ala standard 4-4-2) whilst when O’kane plays as the 1 he plays in the hole in front of the midfield. I have to agree that whatever formation you call it I much prefer it that way, we look a much better side with more balance. We have the right players in the right positions i.e. Mansell in Midfield and O’kane on the wing, but still giving him the opportunity to cut inside or to push forward. His defending was quality last night so it’s no wonder he got tired. He is still young and has put in two great shifts in 4 days. He can only get stronger. What you describe sounds more like Zebs is playing the role Rendell did last season. It also sounds like O'Kane's new role on the wing might develop him further still. Very good news. I'll be interested to see who plays where at Morecambe.

It was quite superb!! Indeed, although I would never say a thing, it was better than that we have at home...

That first 45 mins was as good as i have seen in years. Very similar to the 4-0 drubbing of Bournemouth under Leroy.
It was obvious that they could not continue to do that throughout the second half as Crewe were obviously going to be told to get closer to us and force themselves more forward in order to try and get a result. This they did with the midfield much tighter and their back four look more resolute.
Another stunning strike scored against us too, went close to Bevan but no chance really. It was a shame that Branston was named man of the match as although he had a good game it sounds as if our defence had a busy night when they only had 30mins. Personally i would have given it to Mansell who was absolutely everywhere or Okane who really shone last night.
Chris makes a good point about who will start at Morecambe. We have just had three high tempo games on a sodden pitch and some were on empty at the end of the game. Benyon again ran his nads off for the cause and on the way home we discussed if he should go on the bench on saturday and put Kee up there. If Benyon continues to play on his own all the time he will soon get burnt out/injured and that wont do us any good whatsoever.
Bucks always says he has confidence in his squad well on saturday lets see if thats true. With the rain forecasted over next two days Morecambes pitch will no doubt be sodden too so one or two fresh faces wouldnt go amiss. Maybe Hemmings for Stevens too.
Really need three points again as a lot of clubs around us on similar points but after the last weeks effort a draw wouldnt be that bad. Can then concentrate on a big game against Gillingham.

I would imagine he would play exactly the same side and formation on Saturday and continue until at least after the Crawley game. It is a winning formation/side and has looked the best I have seen, both home and away all season.

Mansell always works very hard, and did so torquay will really miss you when your gone,
Branston, why does the ball always fall on his head???
okane oh yes i love tyhis boy, if only the rest of the team thought the way he does (i guess non of them would play for torquay) but when he was run out with 20 mins left why the hell did mr buckle take danny off?? okane was already shot yet again some wierd decisions from the bench .
Before the game i told my old man danny would be subbed , and he was , mr buckle your predictable ,i just wish you wer,nt
And please please give saul a run!!
BY the way great save from bev low down in the second half.
And as a nico knocker, i thought he had a great game,

I don`t suppose you could remind me what formation that was? Strange that "the magic 4-4-2" didn't turn the tide our way when Kee came on for Stevens. We murdered Crewe in the first half because we played quality football at pace, whilst Crewe were leggy and off the pace and gave us plenty of room - with Eunan in particular revelling in it. In the second half Crewe bucked up massively and got stuck in whilst at least half of our team were out on their feet - hardly surprising given the pace of the first half and the energy expended in beating Carlisle. Zebs and Benyon in particular had run themselves into the ground. Do people really think that purely by leaving Zebs up front and Eunan out right, we would have repeated the first half dominance? I don't. I thought the crowd were excellent. As Crewe battled back into the game, you could hear the "sort it out Buckle" and the "Zebs is rubbish" brigade warming up, but then they were surprisingly drowned out by some excellent SUPPORT. I'm sure that the positive support helped the lads over the line to a well-deserved victory.

I know it didn`t turn the tide but what it did do is give half a chance of staying in front when anyone could see that the other formation was going to see us snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! We sit too deep playing 4-4-1-1 or 4-5-1, I would rather see us defending in the oppositions half than in our penalty area!

That was certainly my opinion of the approach that we took against Crewe. Even when Crewe started to get on-top they were unable to commit too many players forward because we still offered a threat up-front. Benyon certainly kept their defenders busy and perhaps if he had a little bit more left in the tank he would have been able to have got a shot away before the defender made an excellent last ditch tackle.
When we sat back against Crewe that certainly gave them a bit of encouragement - and a team with as much talent as they have certainly don't need any of that! If you looked over the next five years out of all the League 2 teams with their current squads (ie any new players do not count) then I think that their players will generate more transfer revenue than any of the club (maybe this is a thread to drag-up in 2016!).
I think that this team isn't the best when it comes to sitting back with everyone going deep. I recall from the great Cyrill Knowles days that he would leave a few players up when defending a corner - we don't take that approach - although that is an observation and not a critisism.
I think that many of our midfielders and strikers are better at going forward than sitting back and soaking things up.

We are best applying the `Tora Tora Tora` approach in most games I`ve witnessed, it frightens the pants out of the opposition when we are all over them and passing them of the park!
