There have only been seven meetings between us and Wycombe with 2 wins apiece and 3 draws. However, there are many recent connections between the clubs with Chris Zebroski joining us from there exactly a year ago this weekend in what has turned out to be a good bit of business.
The other side of the coin is that we lost out to them with Scott Rendell going there earlier this year for a sizable transfer fee which may or may not turn out to be good business. He is currently joint top scorer with Kevin Betsy for Wycombe scoring six goals, three of them coming against Bristol Rovers in the JPT where a certain Joe Kuffour also scored a hat-trick. (Wycombe were unable to deal with his pace in a 6-3 Rovers win in a game that I and probably many other Gull fans would have liked to seen.) Rendell has missed the last couple of games due to the birth of his first son, so congratulations to him and he is more than welcome to continue enjoying his paternity leave for another few days. ;D
Another name that is instantly recognisable is Stuart Beavon, a previous Buckle target, formerly of Weymouth and the scorer of their second goal in a 2-0 forgettable defeat at Plainmoor in February last year (2009), although it feels much longer ago. As far as I am aware, he is unfortunately not on paternity leave!
I don’t think that Buckle will make many changes to Saturday’s line up. Hemmings sounded like he had a good game on the left wing and probably will keep his place. Robertson is unlikely to be fit only three days on from Saturday and although Senda is an option in this position with Mansell going back to midfield it may be too soon coming back from injury for him to start. Buckle was not too impressed with the Stockport goal but I think this was more due to being unsighted as opposed to injury so Bevan will probably play.
This will be a tough, tough game but a win will leap frog us above Wycombe and will have us firmly looking up to the top of the table and could kick start a possible promotion push.
Edit: Just a reminder that the deadline to entry to BBC Gull's league cup competition is 27th November (11a.m.). 50/64 places taken up, so room for a few more. I will post reminders for predictions in each round on the matchday thread.
