After being knocked out in the JPT back to league action until the FA Cup next month. Incidentally, we could do with some more members signing up to the prediction league cup which mirrors this competition. The commitment is minimal as most people will be knocked out in the first couple of rounds but would be great if the current 27 could be upped to 50+  After losing their first two leagues matches, Crewe have been unbeaten since with some stand out results being 7-0 against Barnet, 3-0 against Bury and last weekend a crowd pleasing (for the neutral ;D) 5-5 draw against Chesterfield.  The policy of resting various players midweek may pay dividends as Crewe played a strong side midweek in their JPT win but rested Shaun Miller who had picked up a slight groin strain last weekend. I think Buckle will field a very similar side to that which started at Shrewsbury as the performance levels were good. I see that Kee was receiving some praise in the paper today and maybe could play some part in proceedings. A tough match and our defence will really have to be on song but there is no reason as to why we can't come away with all three points. |

Sadly there is a reason why we will not come away with three points Dave. To win you must score goals...something we seem uncapable of doing at present! Last Saturday being a prime example, dominating the game for long periods, but with no end product. For how many seasons have we heard those words. Hopefully, this new midfield chap might be able to change things...though I doubt he'll play for a month, and then return to his club!  Crewe 3 Torquay zip, zero, zilch...sadly!  |

It might not happen in time, but I have good reason to believe moves are still afoot for "that striker" to be brought in. When the budget is not there to merely buy, sometimes other methods need to be employed to achieve what is desired and you can rest assured the manager is doing just that............... managing the situation! Joe Oastler maybe a midfield player, but he is not down at Torquay just to get a month in and then return to Rangers, of that I am pretty certain. Given what I saw at Stevenage (plenty of good chances created with three being put onto the woodwork and a couple of others badly missed) and that missed penalty at Shrewsbury last week, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that the team are not far off firing on all cylinders ~ and that with just ten games into the season gone; is no bad thing. A bit more luck with the woodwork and but for that awful penalty miss and we would be looking at four more points, and I see no reason to fear a visit to Alex tomorrow................at least they won't be stringing two lines of four or more accross the edge of their own penalty area. A game I would have loved to be able to watch for myself, but sadly am unable to. |

I think we've bit a bit unlucky with recent results. I've lost count of the times I heard on the wireless that we've hit the post, bar and had the ball kicked off the line. Saying that we do seem a tad 'toothless' in attack sometimes.

You can PM me and I promise I will not tell anyone! There's nothing to tell Register because I don't know the identity. I did know the club a player who the manager was hoping to bring in plays for, but in the light of the recent budget reduction maybe that particular one's no longer an option. I would imagine that when the January window opens the club may have to be more willing to listen to offers to one or two of the present squad than they may otherwise have been and that might be the means by which a purchase can be made. I think the manager has pulled a rabbit out of the hat just getting Joe Oastler in for a month without the need to unload anyone to make room on the wage bill to be honest, and maybe we have new director Bill Phillips who is effectively doing Colin Lee's job for nothing to thank also. Imaginative thinking and flexibilty will be the order of the day for many clubs as the season progresses given the financial climate in which they ALL have to operate, so maybe someone who's not affordable now may be available for less as the period for trading approaches. Torquay United and Paul Buckle aren't alone in having to work this way, believe me; money and cash flow is tight throughout the game and it's affecting everything from First team football right down to youth and development budgets. I told recently of how Mansfield Town had to close down their entire CoE and now Kidderminster Harriers are up for sale too. Fans have to be realistic and be thankful their own particular club isn't in the crisis many are and when set against the spectre of going bust, merely not being quite able to put a promotion winning strength squad together straight from the start of a season is not the greatest disaster in the world is it. Anyway, again as I have highlighted before; look how Bournemouth, Blackpool and Dagenham & Redbridge pulled off promotions last year despite the severe limitations of their playing budgets. This "promotion or the club isn't worth following" attitude makes me spit nails to be honest, and I believe people should be more prepared to gain enjoyment from the individual games, the ambience of being in a ground and the comfort of the social facilities....................they would all be a lot happier if they did and the little clubs would not be under so much dire financial pressure and tempted to spend money they can ill afford in a desperate attempt to increase attendances. |

Argyle were in Court on Wednesday for the second time this year on a winding up order presented by HMRC. It was discharged as the bill was paid but clearly things are a little difficult at Devon's biggest (but not best) club. |

Don't be stupid, Merse - fans haven't been interested in financial constraint for generations and they aren't going to start now. If we're not spending bags of cash for automatic promotion, we're lacking ambition. You've been building Airfix models if you think fans are going to be realistic... |

Is there somebody with the appropriate skills who could turn the Mayflower on the Ghoul's badge into a sinking ship, or just a mast sticking out of the water? During the London Forest Bus Strike which I have mentioned before on here, we ran a weekly newspaper called "Timber" in which we bastardised the company's oak tree logo into a stump with the branches laying scattered on the ground. It did much for the moral of the strikers and loads for the demoralisation of the management!
