The Devon Dumpling ran out of Devon Dumpling. Can you believe it?
The good news was Steak and Ale Pie on the specials board. It was PROPER pie.
In the absence of DD, washed down by a couple of pints of Doom Bar.
I do hope that drinking Cornish beer doesn't start me doing ridiculous things with jam and cream.

Shame about the DD, still there's always the London Pride You know the rules - you have to post a picture of the pie. At worst you can use your mobile - not sure whether that brick of yours has a camera though. You up there every Friday for dinner - I did hear the staff saying usual table for the posh git!

Shame about the DD, still there's always the London Pride. I don't like the sound of that. I do my bit to try to regenerate Torbay's economy by consuming as much Bays product as possible. Given my distrust of things from beyond the Kerswell Arch, I have to look South rather than North when a local beer is not an option. You know the rules - you have to post a picture of the pie. At worst you can use your mobile - not sure whether that brick of yours has a camera though. It is a phone not a camera. I can make telephone calls on it. Somebody did say I can do something called texting with it. I shall have to look into that. You up there every Friday for dinner - I did hear the staff saying usual table for the posh git! Just enjoying spending time with my family before the kids buggar off. I thought that you committed a social faux pas by standing in the area reserved for "Shiphay boys". I would have thought a Chelstonian would get lynched for that - particular a wealthy landowner.

You must introduce me to the Linny sometime. Would be a pleasure. Drive We could catch the bus to the garage, followed by a nice walk though Coffinswell to the pub, nice bit of lunch and return home. I'm sure Algenon would be up for it. I'm waiting for the "it's not a real pie" comment soon - to Algenon a pie must be encased in pastry.

My wife likes the Linny, usually quality food but I suspect a bit more costly than the whippet pie!

The pan fried steak with (i think) port and stilton sauce is an absolute belter, really melts in the mouth...

Superb pie had at The Linny the other month, note the potato of choice Pie in itself looks o.k., but far too much gravy. How the hell are you going to soak that up with new potatoes for Cliff's sake? Pie and mash. It's the law.

I love the Linny, always get some decent grub there. Think I would have had roast potatoes myself with that!

Pie in itself looks o.k., but far too much gravy. How the hell are you going to soak that up with new potatoes for Cliff's sake? Pie and mash. It's the law. My synopsis of yesterday's game was incomplete. I failed to mention the mashed potato v new potatoes debate that raged for much of the game. In my opinion both have their place. The humble mashed potato is more workaday; it's a staple and, as Jon says, it's a wonderful soaker of gravy. But not the "law". That's an arrogant assertion. The new potato is an excellent treat which offers an extra touch of finesse. Should I ever have the chance to dine with Chelston and Jon in future I shall choose new potatoes in tribute to Chelston's superior culinary taste. Furthermore he is at liberty to spread his jam and cream however he bleedin' likes. The cream tea fascists have gone too far with their regulated society based upon force and discipline.

I think the next venue is the Barn Owl - home of the small pie. Date & time tbc - perhaps after the first home game?
