I may just pop over to see this event. If you are able to go Rob it would be really great if you could do a report on the whole experience complete with pictures of the crowds, any other things that might be going on and the castle itself going up in flames. If I can get away with not going to Holsworthy on the Tuesday after the big fire, I will visit the site and take some pictures of the aftermath.

I sent an email to the secretary of the Torrington Cavaliers this morning informing him about this thread and asking if any pictures could be sent to me of the big day so the thread can be completed. he was over the moon with the thread and told me my last photo shoot was the day after a large marquee got flattened by high winds etc!! it was covering the dragon that's being made to go on top of the castle. He has given me his kind permission to use any photos on their own website and also their face book page and I'm adding just three for now as they are interesting and it means I will be now be able to put up some pictures when it goes up in flames. So many thanks Nick

I have just read on the Torrington Cavaliers website that the castle is now finished and the only thing left to do is finish of the dragon and then a crane will be brought in to lift him/her? On top of the castle. It seems I was incorrectly in my assumption that the dragon would breathe fire and set the castle alight as on Friday night the first practice of the archers who are to fire flaming arrows into the castle took place and this is how the castle will be set alight . As you may know I have the kind permission of the Torrington Cavaliers to use any content and pictures from their own site and the one they have on face book. So I can bring you their latest pictures of the finished castle.I will also be able to put up their pictures of the big night as well and as soon as they have them on their website I will post them on this thread. I have taken two stories from their website, the first one I did not know about but was something I feared could happen. The second is a small part of a bigger article that goes into far more detail. Arson attack on Castle BonfireOn the evening of Sunday 18th July 2010 our Chairman, Chris Stacey, who lives closest to the bonfire was called to the bonfire because a report of black smoke billowing from the rear of the castle. On arrival the castle fencing had been breached and a burnt and melted coat was found in the area behind the TARDIS at the rear of the fire. Luckily it did nothing more than scorch some pannelling. It was blatantly obvious this was a mindless act and not an accident. We are now stepping up our security by installing our CCTV system to monitor the whole site and the bonfire itself, the Police will keep an eye for us and we will have a rota to stay on site and prevent this happening again. It would be a sad day if the bonfire is burnt before the event because some monies raised are going to support the children who use the Children’s Hospice South west at Fremington. Wedding at the castleTorrington fire fighter Del Anderson told his bride-to-be Emma Sutton that he wanted her to be his "princess in a castle" he meant just that. The couple are to be married on August 21 inside the replica medieval castle that has been built on the town's Commons by the Torrington Cavaliers charity group.

It’s going to look strange the next time I visit the site with no castle there Never got to see it myself, just the normality of the usual landscape as I passed by today on the way to Bideford. I wouldn't have known without this thread. Bideford 1 Taunton 2 - an absorbing game between two not so good sides. But perhaps I've written off Taunton too quickly and they are really "a promising, gutsy young side put together on a shoestring" (which did well today against a more experienced team that included Laight, Hockley and Mudge). A fair degree of incident during the match but nothing quite as dramatic as me falling down the steps of the main stand at half-time. Plenty of concern from those around but no damage done. Looked inside the church at Crediton today - St Boniface, Redvers Buller and all that. Apparently one of Devon's great churches along with Exeter Cathedral, Ottery St Mary and Cullompton. Worth a visit. The B&B Inspector is now off to Boscombe. Many thanks for the earlier tip-off about no trains from Liverpool Street on Saturday.

Reminds me of this you tube video I saw in the week. Whether or not the Greeks have enough money for the fireworks this year is debatable.

I think I knew before I left Toolfix this morning heading for North Devon that as the site the castle was built on has been a place I have regularly visited over the last year to watch the castle rise up from the ground, that I would have to take the very long detour to get to where I wanted and see the site as it looked a few days after the big fire. Can’t understand why the public toilets door had a big padlock on them as they are always open and the end result was I had to drive to Bideford cross legged. It may be that they were just closed on the night of the fire as there are still on site a number of those portable toilets, not that you would ever get me in one of those after what happened to me the last time I used one. I suppose some damage might have been cause to the public toilets and I hope they reopen soon as its hard enough already finding public toilets when you are on the road all day. Walking down to where the castle stood I was surprised how far back from where the castle stood the grass was scorched and I would imagine those who stood near the front of the crowd would have felt the heat big time from the fire and might have even discovered their faces were red when they got home. So my final shots from the site and I wonder if I will still be doing the job I am now when those Torrington Cavaliers build their next big thing what ever it might be, well who knows what even tomorrow will bring for us, but should I be then guess what? You can all look forward to my next thread and watch the project grow up from the ground.
